John Berman, who currently serves as a co-anchor for CNN News Central, has lately been trending on the news. It was mainly due to his posts on social media concerning his health.
The news anchor, who was perfectly healthy most of the time, was suddenly seen in hospital, leaving many of his listeners perplexed. So, why was John Berman hospitalized?
On April 18, 2022, John Berman participated in a marathon for TeamBeansFund, which aims to raise money for children who were affected by cancer. The race was hosted by Andrew Kaczynski, and by the time he finished it, he was hit by heatstroke and was taken to hospital for treatment.
CNN’s John Berman: Why Was He Hospitalized and Is He Okay Now?
John Berman, CNN host, shared his experience following the 25-mile marathon for TeamBeansFund. Apparently, he had been practicing for the race for almost five months prior to the event.
While he was pretty active during the marathon, it reportedly had a negative effect on his health, especially given he is in his early 50s. So, Berman was hospitalized after suffering a heatstroke.
According to the Boston news outlet, here’s how everything transpired:
“They told me that people at the tent put me in an ambulance to the emergency room at Beth Israel Hospital. Again, I have no idea how I got to the tent or who saw me there, or who put me in the ambulance. But thank God they did. In the ER, my body temperature was around 104; my blood pressure was wicked low; and my heart rate very, very fast.”
It turns out he was fine for the first 24 miles, but then he started feeling fatigued, and the next thing he knew, he was waking up in the ER with no recollection of what happened.
Following the incident, Berman posted an update on social media on how he was feeling. Here’s what it states:
“So apparently I had 25 Great miles…I say apparently because it seems I took a bit of a detour to the medical tent…and then the hospital. I don’t exactly remember what happened…but I am doing MUCH better now. Back to work soon!”
According to the reports, when Berman was taken to the hospital, he was first stabilized to bring the temperature down, as heatstroke was pretty brutal.
Although he was fine after getting treated in the ER, his recovery involved harsh hydration as he had an ungodly amount of water for the next few days. Here’s what he said, according to the Boston News:
“I more than made up for the 1.2 miles I did not run with trips to the bathroom. But it worked. After three nights in the hospital, they let me out as long as I promised to drink my body weight in fluids for the next few days. There shouldn’t be any lasting effects at all.”
Ultimately, it all worked fine for the CNN news anchor, and he is currently in his best health, appearing more active than ever on CNN News Central. Given his amazing personality and ability to keep people engaged, Berman will be a healthy and happy anchor for a long time.
