It is not often we see any major accidents in reality TV shows, but when it comes to rodeo incidents, they are the same whether on screen or off screen, and we witness many cowboys leaving their lives behind.

In a similar incident a few months ago, the world lost another cowboy named Jackson Taylor, who competed fiercely in Ultimate Cowboy Showdown.

Jackson Taylor, 33, a cowboy from Lockney, died on July 22, 2023, while competing in the Estancia Valley Rancho Rodeo sanctioned by WRCA in Moriarty, New Mexico. Taylor reportedly took the fall damage during the rodeo and was shortly pronounced dead.

What Happened to Jackson Taylor on Ultimate Cowboy Showdown?

Today we mourn the tragic loss of our good friend Jackson Taylor—a true cowboy and fine horseman. We tip our hat to you, Jackson; may you rest in peace. Our deepest condolences go out to his friends, family, and the cowboy community as you grieve his loss, and remember his life. pic.twitter.com/dJVX8zd4fj

Jackson Taylor was a contestant in Ultimate Cowboy Showdown, which began in 2019 and has released three seasons, with the fourth season still airing on the INSP channel.

Taylor, a member of the Working Ranch Cowboys Association (WRCA) from Amarillo, joined the Ultimate Cowboy Showdown TV series in 2021, appearing in the second season as a contestant.

While he didn’t win the race against other cowboys in season 2, Taylor was all set to return in season four, which finished its filming by June 2023.

However, in July 2023, fate had different plans for this fabulous cowboy when he decided to participate in a rodeo race. On July 22, 2023, Taylor competed in the Estancia Valley Rancho Rodeo, sanctioned by WRCA in Moriarty, New Mexico.

The race also involved a bronc ride, in which the horse attempts to throw off the participant while they try to ride the bucking horse with all their efforts.

While participating in the Bronc ride, Taylor reportedly took fall damage and was soon escorted to the hospital, but it was too late. He was shortly pronounced dead and had to bid farewell to his exciting life at the very young age of 33.

According to the reports, Taylor received the Top Hand prize in the rodeo, and following his untimely death, the INSP network’s host, Trace Adkins, shared his condolences on X (formerly Twitter).

Jackson Taylor was a helluva cowboy. There was no ‘back down’ in him and I’m proud to have known him. Rest in peace, hoss.  – Trace pic.twitter.com/HtUSH9tyJ2

The INSP programming also shared their condolences for losing such an awesome cowboy, particularly highlighting that he was quintessential. Here are the exact words of INSP’s executive, Doug Butts,

“Jackson was the quintessential cowboy. He was an exceptional horseman, rugged, talented, aggressive, experienced, a maverick, a tough competitor, and a devoted friend. Everyone at INSP feels a profound loss, and we extend our deepest condolences to his family, friends, and the cowboy community as you grieve his death and remember his life.”

The INSP channel also informed fans that back in July, Jackson played a prominent part in the fourth season that was filmed in spring 2023. To honor the miraculous cowboy’s death, they aired the fourth season as planned.

On July 29, 2023, a memorial service was carried out by fellow association members at the Grey Mule Cemetery in Floyd County, and other prominent contestants also attended.

Even though Jackson Taylor has left this world, he lives on in the hearts of many people around the world as well as in their words.
