Explained: Why Was Wallo in Prison?
Wallo/Wallace Peeples’ journey began in a low-income neighborhood in Philadelphia when he was born on January 1, 1984. There, he witnessed his father’s battle with drug addiction while his mother worked tirelessly to support the family.
Despite the challenges, he was a bright and ambitious student with dreams of becoming an entrepreneur. However, the allure of quick money and limited opportunities in his community lured him into the drug trade at a young age.
As he delved deeper, he became a prominent figure in the local drug scene, fully aware of the risks and consequences.
At the age of 17, Wallo was imprisoned for 20 years in the Pennsylvania Department of Corrections for several firearm violations and armed robberies. This decision left Wallo’s family and friends disappointed with the verdict.
After serving time in prison for his involvement in the drug trade, Wallo had an awakening. He realized the wrong path he had taken and decided to change his life.
In an interview with Validated Magazine, he confirmed that in 1998 and 2005, he shared the same prison cell as his brother and father. He said:
“I remember when I called my grandma and I was talking to her, me and my stepfather were cell mates and then I called her again, and me and my brother was cellmates, and you know, we used to go see my stepfather in jail as kids together. So it was just, it was real crazy.”
Wallo further said that he was determined to break the cycle of generational imprisonment. He added:
“I could hear the vocal tone of my grandma when I was telling about it. Like, it was just disappointment, you know? And I knew I had to change that and break the cycle of generational incarceration. So what I did was I said, I’m gonna turn it up. When I get out here, I’m gonna make sure that my people after me don’t go through what I went through.”
Following his release in 2017, he became an advocate for at-risk youth, sharing his story and encouraging them to make better choices.
