The little crew is back at it again, and we are finally climbing the cliffhanger!
The creators of The Amazing World of Gumball announced season 7 at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival & Market on 15th June with a teaser.
Seems like this decade will be the treasure trove of revivals, as Disney announced new seasons for Phineas and Ferb, Nickelodeon is pumping out new seasons for Thundermans and possibly a movie, while Rick and Morty season 7 is highly anticipated in the coming months. And now Gumball is hopping back on Cartoon Network; Season 6 had the longest run of 44 episodes.
This teaser came as a surprise, considering no one expected a new season when a movie is slated for a release soon. But even more surprising was that the next season is not a sequel; it’s instead a continuation of the previous cliffhanger.
Where is the world of Gumball headed? Let us find out…
The Amazing World of Gumball: Season 6 Recap
The previous season explored the impending doom of the city of Elmore while the citizens were oblivious. However, one particular character stood out amidst the two-dimensional Elmore citizens— Superintendent Evil shocks everyone as the first real-life human character in the animated series.
Season 6, finale episode, “The Inquisition,” navigates an unusual school day where the anthropomorphic characters are turned into actual humans. Who is behind these vile transformations?
Turns out that Superintendent Evil (pronounced E-vel) is propagating a normative school of humans. He is stringent, ruthless, apathetic, and cruel to the students who cannot act the “normal” way. One by one, the students are converted into human counterparts, which petrifies Gumball and Darwin.
And with their usual shenanigans and intelligence, both join forces to dehypnotize them to turn back to their original form. The students realize the superintendent’s cruel intentions and decide to rebel together.
Within a few seconds of a dramatic confrontation, the superintendent turns his back and books it down the corridor, but trips and falls, head-first. The students quickly gathered around him only to find out that it was Rob, under the disguise of a human.
Before he could explain his reason, Tina Rex beats the living soul of him. And he is left alone in the class.
While the rest of the citizens rejoice, Rob is the first to encounter the Void. He falls into the glitch-like hole, and the entire school is sucked into it. That’s where we were left in season 6, with a wait of almost four years.
The Amazing World of Gumball: Season 7 Predictions
Rob may be the ultimate antagonist, but he is trying to save everyone by converting them into humans so that they can escape from this world.
What is the Void?
It is a dimension inside Elmore that sucks in all the “mistakes” from the real world. Once the mistake is thrown into the Void, every fragment of its existence is erased from the citizens’ minds, including its memory.
Rob was one of the few who witnessed the Void in the previous episode, “The Future.” Which is why he was determined to save everyone from getting sucked.
Rob discovers that Banana Barbara has not only the ability to predict the future but also decide it.
In one of her drawings, we can see Gumball, Darwin, and Anais escaping a catastrophic apocalypse. That’s the first foreshadowing of season 7, where we can expect a storyline on the characters surviving the Void. Rob will probably become one of the protagonists in saving their world.
Also, expecting Richard to take a heroic role in saving everyone– kind of like the beta male protagonist from Everything, Everywhere, All At Once.
The Amazing World of Gumball: Season 7 Estimated Release Date
Since the teaser was announced this month, there are no official dates on the official release date yet. But given the timeline of production, the safest guess for the release would be somewhere in early 2024.
Creator Ben Bocquelet and director Mic Graves presented a vague introduction to season 7; not much details have been released yet.
The Amazing World of Gumball movie was announced on 15th June at Salle Pierre Lamy.
