Marvel star Elizabeth Olsen says her next battle is fighting sexual abuse on the internet.
The Wanda Vision star, Elizabeth Olsen, took to the stage to pay her tribute to her very own superhero: Gail Abarbanel, the founder, and director of the Rape Foundation and Stuart House.
Olsen appeared at Variety’s Power of Women event, giving a speech on the Los Angeles organization founded by the activist Gail Abarbanel nearly five decades ago. She also talked about Abarbanel’s efforts to provide a place where sexually assaulted child survivors are provided free medical, legal, and psychological care under Stuart House.
“When I learned about tonight, I asked Gail if there is anything that she would like to do next with the foundation, because in my mind she’s already thought of everything. She said, ‘Yes, to stop sexual abuse on the internet,'” Olsen said.
She added, “To me that sounded very, very big and maybe impossible. But if you were to ask her what she wanted to create in 1974, I think that would have also sounded just as big and impossible.”
She recalled her first meeting with Gail Abarbanel in 2015 while she was on a tour of Stuart House and its facilities. “I learned about all the ways that Stuart House has managed to fill a need in a system that can otherwise be so damaging to child victims.”
Explaining further, she continued, “Without a program like Stuart House, it’s not unheard of for a child to have to go to as many as six different agencies to report their abuse and sit through interviews by professionals with no training whatsoever on how to work with children. At Stuart House, they provide in-house police detectives, prosecutors, child advocates, therapists and forensic services to help expedite investigations and child protection actions.”
Just yesterday, the Marvel star expressed her excitement over a potential team-up with the X-Men and the Scarlet Witch. Accounting for her recent appearance on ‘On the Carpet,’ event at Variety’s Power of Women, when asked whether she heard the news of Hugh Jackman’s return as Wolverine in the upcoming Deadpool 3, Olsen exclaimed, “Oh really?”
As she tried digesting the sudden chain of events in the MCU, “Wow!” She added, “I guess Wolverine is X-Men.” When asked which character she hopes to team up with in the MCU, she responded, “It would be cool to work with a lot of those people form the X-Men franchise. I guess Fassbender is my dad in some world?”
Elizabeth Olsen’s Scarlet Witch was last seen in ‘Doctor Stranger in the Multiverse of Madness’ where her character undergoes a negative shift of tone, leaving her fate ambiguous by the end. After which, she sacrifices herself to destroy the Darkhold as her redemption arc comes into action.
