Original Name of Rocket League & History Explained

Playing conventional sports is so passé. Who likes to just ‘kick a football?’ Who likes to just ‘race cars?’ Every gamer needs a new challenge. That’s how you stimulate the keyboard warriors. And Psyonix knew exactly what they were doing when they created an epic amalgamation.

Rocket League is playing soccer but with cars! This multiplayer team game is the trigger for any adrenaline junkie. The visuals, graphics, audio, theme cohesions, accessibility, performance, and completion– its every parameter suffices the gaming experience.

Moreover, the Rocket League Championship is the most awaited E-Sports league every year, where teams compete for the ultimate trophy and up to $6,000,000 prize money.

Let us dive deep into this game–

Rocket League Game Explained

It is primarily a team sport where offense and defense are the key performance indicators of the team outmaneuvering each other.

The basic rules of Soccer apply here, where each goal accounts for one point. However, the execution hits differently because it’s not human players to deal with… you must swerve your car to win.

This creates a great thrill in the game, and the team must mark a strategy to counterattack. The players must master a few skills of high-level dexterity and accelerated gameplay.

What Is the Main Objective of the Rocket Game League?

Here’s the gameplay–

The two teams– Blue & Orange start on opposite sides of the field.
The timer sets off, and players must zoom into the field to hit the ball first with their car.

The clock winds down as soon as the ball is in play, and the players have to hit a goal within that time.

Once any team scores a goal, both teams must return to the starting position to repeat the process. And the game continues, determining the winner with the highest points. In case of a tie, overtime is initiated until a winner emerges.

What Is the Original Name of Rocket League?

The concept of this game was the same, but the execution was slightly different in the first versions. It was initially called Supersonic Acrobatic Rocket-Powered Battle-Cars, widely known as SARPBC or Battle-Cars.

Brief History and Origins of Rocket League

The game’s first version was released in North America in October 2008 and in February 2009 for Europe players. The major difference was that originally the game’s campaign mode was integrated with mini-games and tournaments against AI. In short, it was launched in single-player mode.

As per the initial response, the game received mixed reviews on the overall gaming experience. It lacked the aggression streak that the current version has, and also, the players were not that agile.

Original Creator of Rocket League

Psyonix is a video game development company based out of San Diego.
Dave Hagewood has a long career history in multi-media and software development. He founded this company in 2000.

The first version of Rocket League, i.e., Battle-cars, first debuted in 2008. They created the latest version of Rocket League launched in 2015. It was first released for PlayStation 4 and Windows and later expanded to ports for Xbox One and Nintendo Switch.

Where Can You Play Rocket League?

Since September 2020, the game is now available in free-to-play mode. Click here to start playing.
