While Jujutsu Kaisen manga is experiencing its peak development in the story, the anime is also doing exceptionally well, thanks to the coverage of the Shibuya Incident arc, one of the most hyped arcs of the manga.
In a recent episode, Yuji Itadori and Choso, the third brother of Cursed Womb: Death Paintings, fought each other. However, he spared Itadori instead of killing him to avenge his brothers, Eso and Kechizu.
So, why did Choso decide not to kill Yuji? Choso did not kill Yuji Itadori because his mind was inundated with false memories of both of them being brothers. In the manga, it was revealed that a body-possessing cursed user named Kenjaku gave birth to both the Cursed Womb: Death Paintings and Itadori.
Why Did Choso Choose Not To Kill Yuji Itadori?
Ever since he learned about the death of his brothers at the hands of Yuji Itadori and Nobara Kugisaki, Choso was hell-bent on avenging them and joined Mahito to fight in Shibuya.
With Yuji fighting the curses deliberately, he finally got a chance to face him. Surely enough, Choso managed to defeat Yuji but froze before he was about to strike a critical blow.
Apparently, his mind was flooded by false memories, which implied that Yuji Itadori was Choso’s brother—considering how Choso feels so much affection for both of his brothers, that left him in a dilemma.
Eventually, he accepted the fact that Yuji Itadori was his brother and ran away, not wanting to hurt him. The anime hasn’t revealed any reason for this sudden twist in the story, but the manga did.
Why Does Choso Remember Yuji Itadori as a Brother?
While the anime is still miles behind in explaining this mystery, the manga has long passed it, so we have a definitive answer, but we advise you to take note of spoilers.
According to the Jujutsu Kaisen manga, Kenjaku is a vile cursed user who has many different forms, but we would like to keep it under wraps to avoid any significant spoilers.
Noritoshi Kamo was the one who created the Cursed Womb: Death Paintings, but Kenjaku, as Kamo at the time, was the one who gave birth to them but coincidentally, he was also the one who created Yuji Itadori.
Before Yuji was born, Kenjaku possessed the body of Kaori Itadori, Yuji’s mother, and by mating with Jin Itadori, he gave birth to the main protagonist.
Apparently, Kenjaku can take over any person’s body, mind, and even memories as long as they are not strong-willed, thus making it easier to escape the clutches of strong sorcerers.
While whether it was intentional to take over his body later or save him for Sukuna, the King of Curses, is not yet known to the anime viewers, the fact remains that Yuji is the son of Kenjaku.
Since both Choso and Yuji are related to Kenjaku as sons, their bond is strong, which resonates with each other. However, Choso has an innate emotional connection with brotherhood; thus, he instinctively recognizes Yuji’s bond.
Moving forward, it is highly likely that Choso would become an ally to Yuji rather than avenging his brothers because he would never kill his own brother, but it remains to be seen whether he would go against fellow cursed spirits.
So, what did you think about this plot twist in Jujutsu Kaisen season 2? Do you believe Choso will aid Yuji in the upcoming episodes?
