Additionally, Wayne Brady came forward to his fans and family as a pansexual. In August 2023, the 51-year-old opened up about his journey of self-discovery and mental health in an interview with People magazine. During the interview, the actor disclosed his orientation and preferences. He said,
“I am pansexual,” further added, “Bisexual — with an open mind!”
Pansexuality involves individuals who are attracted to others regardless of their sex or gender identity. In the interview, he explained that during his self-exploration, he noticed that he could not relate himself accurately as a bisexual. Hence, he decided to settle as a pansexual. He further revealed,
“I came to pansexual because ….and I know that I’m completely messing up the dictionary meaning …but to me, pan means being able to be attracted to anyone who identifies as gay, straight, bi, transsexual, or non-binary. Being able to be attracted across the board. And, I think, at least for me for right now, that is the proper place.”
The host of “Let’s Make a Deal,” continued,
“I took pan to mean that not only can I be attracted to any of these people or types physically, but I could be attracted to the person that is there.”
Upon asking about the reaction of his family, Wayne revealed that he told his daughter, Maile, and ex-wife, Mandie Taketa. His wife said it was“great” and that she knew coming out would make him happier.
He also revealed his hidden battle with depression after the death of Robin Williams. He said,
“I did all the therapy I could do. I was treated for love addiction. It’s a part of my journey. I had to start examining why I was looking for myself and happiness in a slew of people.”
During his therapy session, Brady discovered his orientation and preferences differed. But with the help of therapy, he was able to come out as a pansexual. Fans are happy for the actor and comedian that he could express himself.
