For years, Jamie Apody has been a stalwart presence at 6abc network’s Action News, a sports news segment. However, her absence for the past few days has prompted many to wonder if she is leaving the network.
But there has been no official announcement from Apody or the channel regarding the same. Also, neither has commented on her absence from the sports news segment. So, she isn’t leaving Action News.
Fans speculate that her absence is because she just had a baby. Others think that whatever the reason might be, she deserves the break because she and her co-presenter, Ducis, worked multiple shifts for weeks on end for over a year.
Who Is Jamie Apody?
Jamie Apody is one of the most influential names in American sports journalism. She began her career with a Los Angeles internship at NBC in the summer between her freshman and sophomore years at UCLA.
In an interview with SJ magazine, she revealed that she loved the internship because she wanted to discuss sports. She said:
“I could get paid to talk about sports! It was amazing, but I didn’t think it would ever happen. I wasn’t the Barbie doll, makeup-wearing type of girl.”
However, entering a male-dominated field as a woman was challenging. She revealed:
“I went from just logging games to going out in the field and doing interviews for the anchors. I got great experience quickly, but I was always tested by coaches, players…people who weren’t used to seeing women around.”
After this, she became a sports producer and, later on, went to El Paso, Texas, for a leading sports anchor role. After working there for two and a half years, she left, and in 2006, she joined Action News.
Her gig there made her a prominent figure. But she earned audience approval and love after years of providing trusted reports on sports. Apody also didn’t report only from the newsroom or the sidelines.
