Is Jimmy Carter Still Alive Now? People Are Worried Amidst Wife Rosalynn's Dead

The US is in mourning after it was announced that former president Jimmy Carter’s wife and former first lady Rosalynn Carter has died.

Everyone from the current POTUS, Joe Biden, and the Obamas have expressed condolences to the Carter family.

However, many are worried about Jimmy Carter. They want to know if he is alive and, most importantly, if he is doing well.

Yes, as of November 20, 2023, Jimmy Carter is still alive at 99. Born in 1924, he has been in hospice since February 2023. Carter has suffered from various health issues throughout the years, like melanoma that spread to his brain from his liver. His wife, Rosalynn Carter, passed away on November 19, 2023, at 96 years of age.

You can let out the breath you were holding. Yes, the 39th President of the United States, Jimmy Carter, is still alive at the age of 99. In fact, born in 1924, he is the longest-living former President of the country. He held the white house from 1977 to 1981.

Apart from Carter, only five other US Presidents have lived past the age of 90- John Adams (90), Herbert Hoover (90), Gerald Ford (93), Ronald Reagan (93), and Bush (94).

Throughout the years, former President Carter has suffered from various medical issues. At the age of 91, he was treated for melanoma that had spread to his brain from the liver. However, doctors recorded no sign of cancer in a brain scan.

Has Jimmy Carter’s Wife Died?

In a touching story revealed by historian Michael Beschloss, when former President Jimmy Carter was at his sickest, and they feared the worst, he refused hospital care saying he wanted to pass away holding Rosalynn’s hand.

Jimmy Carter has survived his wife and long-time confidant, Rosalynn Carter, who passed away on November 19, 2023, soon after she was shifted to hospice care on November 17, 2023. As per The Carter Center, she passed away with her family at her side.

Jimmy Carter reflected after Rosalynn’s passing and wrote (via People magazine):

“Rosalynn was my equal partner in everything I ever accomplished. She gave me wise guidance and encouragement when I needed it. As long as Rosalynn was in the world, I always knew somebody loved and supported me.”

They were married in 1946 and later welcomed three sons– John William, Donnel Jeffrey, and James Earl, and one daughter- Amy Carter. In May 2023, the Carter family announced that their matriarch, Rosalynn Carter, was suffering from dementia.

Jimmy Carter was in hospice as well from February 2023, even before his wife was put in an assisted living facility. Rosalynn was 96 years old at the time of her passing.

However, even while the two were in a hospice, Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter attended a peanut festival in Georgia in September 2023. They had the longest presidential marriage, 77 years, in the nation’s history.

Memorial services will be held for former First Lady Rosalynn Carter from November 27, 2023, to November 29, 2023.

There will be a motorcade from the Phoebe Sumter Medical Center in Americus (where Mrs. Carter’s remains will be put on a hearse) to The Carter Presidential Center in Atlanta.

Also, there will be Wreath-laying at the esteemed Georgia Southwestern State University and Repose at the Jimmy Carter Presidential Library and Museum.

With Rosalynn passing I realize Jimmy Carter is the last surviving pres to actually serve in uniform during wartime. (GWB was in the Nat Guard during Vietnam)

Rosalynn Carter’s funeral will be held on November 29 at Maranatha Baptist Church in Plains. The service will be closed and will include just friends and family.
