November is here! And that means the end of 2023 is in sight. It’s time for the memes and posts about how people have no idea where the year went by. Yet, many, like me, want to know what they did for the whole year.
Thanks to features like Spotify Wrapped and YouTube Rewind, we can peep into our viewing and listening habits. But that often isn’t enough to provide an adequate flashback experience.
That’s why Instagram Wrapped is here. After all, what’s the one platform where everyone shares their aesthetically pleasing day-to-day photos? Only Insta. However, people are skeptical of the safety of this Wrapped feature.
‘Wrapped for Instagram’ is a third-party app available only on the App Store. It is non-affiliated with Meta or Instagram and claims to give accurate, in-depth analysis of a user’s activities for the year. Users are worried that their login credentials and sensitive data will be exposed by it. Though the app claims to take preventive measures like storing your data in a secure server, it isn’t confirmed or guaranteed that your personal data will be safe.
How To Get Instagram Wrapped?
Instagram Wrapped will let users know everything. As in who their top followers are, their famous stories, how much reach they have, most seen hashtags, most viewed reels, etc. Also, users can see their most active time in a day on the app.
So here’s how to get it:
- Go to the App Store and search for the app- “Wrapped for Instagram.”
- Then click on the Install option given below the name.
- Once the application gets downloaded, please open it and follow the directions to connect it to your Instagram account.
- Then IG Wrapped will start getting a personalized all-year-round report for you.
- Enjoy the highlights and insights of a year’s worth of activities.
- You can share these on your IG account so that everyone can see what you were up to for the whole year.
Note that the app isn’t available for Android or Windows users.
However, people have questions about this application. They are worried about the safety of their data and login information. As such, many are asking if the Wrapped for Instagram app is safe.
Is Instagram Wrapped Safe?
Having an app that gives unique insights into Instagram activities is excellent. However, some follow-up questions must be answered once the initial joy dies. For example, is the application safe? Is it a part of Meta or Instagram? What does it do with the data?
Online, Instagram users and general internet surfers are asking all of the above questions and then some more. After all, Wrapped for Instagram isn’t affiliated with Meta or Instagram and says so in their App Store description.
So, it is a third-party application that, if used, will have your login information as well as every other data that you have ever put on Instagram. So, there’s a chance that sensitive data can get exposed.
As in, if you decide to check out someone’s profile, they will probably know that it was you. Thus making interactions awkward and defeating the purpose of staying anonymous while browsing someone’s profile.
Meta, the parent company of Instagram, has advised its users multiple times that they shouldn’t disclose their private user information to any third-party app without proper security verification.
Also, Instagram and Facebook don’t disclose information about who has visited your account/ profile. As such, it’s hard to believe that the Wrapped for Instagram app could get that information without breaking a few of Meta’s rules.
Several users have also reported that Wrapped shows them different figures with each attempt. This questions the legitimacy of the app’s results and muddies the waters on data security even more.
Moreover, it has made users question if they can log into Instagram safely after using an unauthentic third-party app. Currently, there’s no way to determine how safe the app is.
So, it’s advised to err on the side of caution and use other tools to get Instagram wrapped. For example, use the Recap Reel feature that’s available on Instagram itself. It will highlight the significant moments from the year in a reel.
So, will you use Wrapped for Instagram? Are you worried about sensitive data getting leaked online? Or are you happy with just Recap Reel?
