The makers behind Invincible have finally decided to give fans something they have been asking for a long time, a season 2 release update. If the stars are aligned correctly, the series might drop the new season in 2023.
The official Twitter account of the Prime Video animated series, Invincible tweeted on Friday, “So… this is the last month we won’t have a Season 2 update for you!!!”
The fan-favorite Invincible is based on the Image Comics created by Robert Kirkman, Cory Walker, and Ryan Ottley of the same name (Invincible). The comic book series ran between 2003 and 2018, publishing 144 issues circulated worldwide. The animated adaptation of the series debuted in March 2021 and soon gathered critical acclaim for its epic storyline and gore.
Invincible follows 17-year-old Mark Grayson (Steven Yeun), who is the half-human son of the world’s greatest superhero Omni-Man. (J. K. Simmons). Mark learns how to become a superhero after developing superpowers like his father.
In a chain of events, a team of elite superheroes is mysteriously murdered while Mark finds himself amidst a dangerous conspiracy that threatens to destroy him, his family, and the entire world.
Amazon Already Has Plans to Continue Invincible for Multiple Seasons
When Invincible was scheduled to release in April 2021, Amazon Studios Co-Head of Television Vernon Sanders shared an interesting update regarding the series being renewed for two more seasons.
“Invincible is a crowning example of how a fresh and edgy approach to the superhero genre can resonate with audiences around the globe and we’re so glad that Invincible, one of our earliest investments in the adult animation genre, has accomplished just that,” said Sanders in 2021.
As per the reports, production has already begun for Season 3. Earlier in September 2022, voice actor Khary Payton stated that Season 2 “was finished” and was awaiting release.
For the past few years, Prime Video has dominated the OTT superhero genre thanks to Invincible and Eric Kripke’s The Boys. The Boys is a live-action adaptation of the Dynamite comic book series of the same name. Interestingly, both shows share a striking resemblance, accounting for gruesome action scenes revolving around overpowered characters and the world around them.
But, it’s sad to say that these universes won’t possibly be seeing a crossover in the future, as Steven Yeun, the voice actor for Mark Grayson, firmly stated “Nope” when he asked about the possibility of a crossover.
The Invincible voice cast also features Sandra Oh, Seth Rogan, Gillian Jacobs, Andrew Rannells, Zazie Beetz, Mark Hamill, Walton Goggins, Jason Mantzoukas, Mae Whitman, Chris Diamantopoulos, Melise, Kevin Michael Richardson, Khary Payton, Grey Griffin, and Max Burkholder. Produced by Skybound, Robert Kirkman, is the executive producer for Invincible along with Simon Racioppa, David Alpert, and Catherine Winder.
You can stream Invincible Season 1 on Prime Video. The release date for Season 2 hasn’t been announced yet.
