While the movie will show Bob Marley’s musical career, it will also show his tumultuous journey, where his life has been targeted more than once. The teaser also shows a shooting in his house where his wife got injured.
This scene led many people to be curious about how the legend passed away in real life. So we are here to answer all your queries.
How Did Bob Marley Die?
Bob Marley died on May 11, 1981, due to melanoma at the age of 36. The singer was diagnosed with acral lentiginous melanoma that developed under his toe in July 1977.
Marley had first thought it was a soccer wound, which went ignored for some time before it was brought to a doctor’s attention. Despite the doctor’s advice to amputate the toe, Bob did not heed it for religious reasons. Both the nail and nail bed were removed and grafted with skin from his thigh. However, it did not save him in the long term.
By 1980, the cancer had spread throughout his body. His condition worsened when he was flying from Germany to Jamaica, and he passed away at a young age when he landed in Miami.
Was Bob Marley Shot?
Contrary to popular belief, Bob Marley did not die due to getting shot. He died in 1981 after melanoma spread through his entire body.
In the latest movie trailer, an attempt on Bob’s life was shown as intruders tried to shoot him and his wife inside his own home. Marley, his wife, Rita, and his manager were wounded but not killed. His wife suffered from severe injuries but made a full recovery later.
The actual reason behind the shooting was never revealed, but some see it as a politically motivated setup to prevent the next concert of Marley.
How Did Bob Marley’s Wife, Rita, Die?
Alfarita Constantia Marley, better known as Rita Marley, the wife of Bob Marley, is still alive. Several death hoaxes regarding her have been spread in the past, but none of them are true. In 2019, she made a public appearance at an award ceremony in Kingston along with her fellow I Three members.
Rita did get shot in the past, but she recovered later. Bob Marley organized a large free concert in December 1976 called the Smile Jamaica Concert. Just two days before the show, Bob, Rita, and his manager sustained injuries in a gun assault. Rita suffered a shot to the head, and a bullet skidded Bob’s chest and wounded his arm.
Nonetheless, the concert was held by Bob with Rita by his side to counter political violence and spread the message of peace.
How Many Children Did Bob Marley Have?
Bob had several children. He had three children with Rita and adopted two of Rita’s children from her previous relationship. He also had children with several other women. The official website of Marley acknowledges 11 children.
