If you thought Dark was convoluted, From will blow your mind away. Season 1 of the show gave no answers, only more questions. This underrated complicated series has a straightforward beginning.
A mysterious town doesn’t exist anywhere on the US map, but people seem to find themselves in it after encountering a fallen tree.
This tree acts as a roadblock that forces drivers to take a second road that leads into the town that they can’t seem to escape from. Drivers keep driving in a loop before ultimately getting taken in by the town’s residents and realizing their predicament.
Season one ended with the revelation of an underground tunnel system, a bus coming, two people going into the faraway tree, and more.
Season two’s ending provides more questions than answers as well. However, it gives some temporary relief to the characters tormented by humanoid monsters and then cicadas plus music in this season. Also, it finally tells viewers what everyone wanted to know- is there a way out of this town that doesn’t exist?
In the season 2 ending of From, Tabitha enters the faraway tree and emerges from the other end into a dense forest. Soon she spots the tower she had seen in her visions and discovers it is a lighthouse. When she reaches the top, she finds the boy in white there. He apologizes to her and then pushes her off. She doesn’t die.
Instead, she wakes up in the hospital in the real world. But something is wrong. The reflection in the mirror is not of Tabitha but of a blonde girl.
From Season 2 Ending
The ending of season two answers the question viewers have been asking since the beginning of season one- is there a way out of this town? Yes, there is. In the first season, Tabitha was convinced that to save everyone in the town, she had to locate the tower and save the kids. But where is this tower located?
She doesn’t know, but she is determined to find out. So she enlists Victor’s help. He takes her to the faraway temperamental tree that can transport people wherever they want. She steps in it, comes out the other end into a thick forest, and finds the tower that has been haunting her visions.
This tower is a lighthouse, and Tabitha finds toys scattered on the staircase. So she determines that kids do live there. As she makes her way to the top, she hears that mysterious word ‘ankhoue’ whispered to her as if calling her.
When Tabitha finally gets to the top, she sees the boy in white. He then pushes her from the top of the tower. She free falls and ends up at a hospital.
When she wakes up, a doctor finds her and informs her that many hikers found her in a deep forest. She was unconscious for three days and finally woken up. Tabitha realizes that she is in the real world now, having successfully escaped from the town that exists nowhere. She walks up to the window and sees that her suspicions are confirmed.
There are cars, people, and boats around, signaling that she has indeed returned to the real world. It looks like she is the second person ever to have successfully escaped. The first one was Victor’s mother. She had escaped, but later Victor found her body near the faraway tree. So this brings some questions.
From Season 2 Episode 10 Explained
Did Tabitha leave the town, or did her consciousness or soul do? Could it mean her body will be found underneath the faraway tree too? What if she could escape the town because she had to first die in that world to be transported to the real one? Or is the lighthouse the connecting thread?
After all, lighthouses show the path in the Dark and at night. This one may have shown Tabitha the way home as well. But is she home? When she looks out of the hospital window, she sees cars and people, but none of that is moving. It’s eerily still. Also, the reflection on the window is of a blonde girl.
The questions don’t end here. The boy in white said that this was the only way before pushing Tabitha off the tower. Does he expect her to save everyone in Fromville? Also, what is going on with the town? One theory is that the town did exist in the USA, but it’s possible that due to bad crops, water contamination, etc., the people in it decided to sacrifice to a demon for relief.
However, something could have gone wrong with the occult ritual that caused the town to get shifted into a separate dimension or pocket dimension. The existence of the ancient symbols that protect them from the demons could symbolize that.
It’s also possible that the entire town is a simulation, and Tabitha has yet to escape. She just went to another part of the simulation or another one. It will be interesting to see what the next season of From brings.
From is now available to stream on Amazon Prime or fuboTV.
