“A Lotus blooms in the mud.”

If one wants to see a positive change in society, one must enter murky situations to bring the change.

Tim Scott, a conservative Republican, believes his roots encourage him to imbibe American values. But being appointed a representative in the U.S. Senate has much more implications for Tim Scott, considering his race.

The only black Republican representative has already created a ripple effect with his Tax Cut policy, “OPPORTUNITY ZONES,” which will help thousands of low-income strata across 50 states, 5 U.S. territories, and the District of Columbia. And now he is set to make huge waves as he officially announced his candidacy for the 2024 Presidential elections on 22 May 2023.

Why Is Tim Scott Running For 2024 Presidential Elections?

The Republican party will gain a reboot with Scott’s nomination and conceal Trump’s recent charges. However, Tim Scott is more than just a black Republican. He is a man on a mission. With his full conviction, Scott expressed his intention to run for President–

“Joe Biden and the radical left are attacking every single rung of the ladder that helped me climb, and that’s why I’m announcing today that I’m running for president of the United States,”

He told the reporters in his hometown, North Charleston.

“You see, they’re attacking our American values, our schools, our economy, and our security. But not on my watch. Not on my watch. That won’t work. I can’t stand by while this is done to America.”

According to him, he has inculcated his business values to see a trajectory in America that has become stagnant in the Biden administration.

He has raised $22 million for his election campaign, which is more than any other candidate.

Who Is Tim Scott? Quick Fact Sheet

  • Tim Scott, born on 19 September 1965 in North Charleston, South Carolina, was raised by a single mother. Coming from working-class poverty, Tim was determined to make it out of the neighborhood and not fall prey to drug addiction or gang affiliations, to which he lost two friends killed in gun firings.
  • Scott studied at Presbyterian College on a football scholarship and then enrolled at Charleston Southern University (B.S.). He is the prime example of “failure is a stepping stone to success,” as he struggled with his academics and backlogs. Eventually, he graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Political Science.
  • Scott is an Evalengical Protestant and was an active member of the Seacoast Church of Charleston. His faith has shaped his perspectives and influenced some of his political beliefs.
  • Before joining politics, Tim Scott broke the barriers by building his own business– Tim Scott Allstate, an insurance agency. He also ventured into real estate as a partner in Pathway Real Estate Group, LLC.
  • Scott’s grandfather suffered racial segregation and slavery under Jim Crow Laws. Scott honors his ancestry by quoting his journey as “From Cotton to Congress.”

Is Tim Scott Married?

Tim Scott is unmarried. Being a conservative who believes in the traditional American family, he is an enigma entering as the Republican candidate. Usually, the headlines are pasted with wholesome family pictures of the running candidates, denoting the understanding of the average American trying to make ends meet in an inflated economy,

However, Scott took a completely different approach. He played the “Proud American” card but gave a shoutout to a special woman before the crowd.

“For those of you who wonder if it’s possible for a broken kid from a broken home to rise above their circumstances, the answer is yes,” He credits his mother for his rise.

Why Isn’t Tim Scott Married?

“As a poor kid growing up, the most important thing for me to do was take care of my mom. And until I had that accomplished, starting a new family was just not an option for me,” he states the reasons for the delay in his plans to settle down.

He did try to settle down in his 40s, but just as he got serious with his then-girlfriend, he got an opportunity for the 1st District Seat.

“But I think at the right time, I will meet Mrs. Right, and she’ll want to have a couple of kids. Or she ain’t Mrs. Right. Right?” He smiles with a hopeful future.

Even though he is not married yet, the 57-year-old senator wishes to have six kids. He has stern beliefs on marriage as he voted against the Respect Of Marriage Act.

People also drew comparisons between former president Barrack Obama who also came from an unfortunate background. His campaign stood on the foundation of family, with Michelle Obama being his pillar of strength. As Tim Scott enters the election as a bachelor, it’s interesting to see what cards are up his sleeves!

Main Criticisms on Tim Scott’s Presidential Run as a Black Republican

Tim Scott believes he can bring economic reforms for all communities in the Republican party while addressing the racial strain.

However, people quickly point out the paradox in his statements as his views restrict people’s rights.

He votes AGAINST healthcare, daycare, school lunch programs, a livable minimum wage and SNAP benefits.

He shared his experience of being pulled over by law officials seven times a year in a rampant case of racial profiling. He was also stopped inside the U.S. Capitol Building. However, he is still adamant that racial division is not prevalent in the nation, as evident from his support for ex-president Donald Trump. When asked if he thinks Trump is racist? Scott replies, “He is racially insensitive.”

Such statements pose an imminent threat to the future of reforms, as seen in the “Unite The Right” rally in Charlottesville and the violence that ensued. Trump’s “blame on both sides” was not a diplomatic statement but a declaration of his support to the white supremacists.

If Scott wants to bring a change to the minority communities, people think he should condemn such statements loud and clear. But so far, he has maintained a neutral position, claiming that he is focused on their economic development.

He has faced pushback from the democrats over his views, but he stands his ground on conservative values, stating– “My life disproves the lies of the radical left.”

People also believe that Tim Scott is a mere prop for the Republican Party under the pretext of inclusivity. He is supposed to be the vote bank for identity politics. But Tim claims he is ready to lead the governance of a better future for minorities and not just be the puppet.

Tim Scott: “I’m the candidate the far left fears the most. When I cut your taxes, they called me a prop. When I refunded the police they called me a token. When I pushed back on President Biden they even called me the n-word. I distrust their narrative. I threaten their control.” pic.twitter.com/SkKpiWXDlb

From a little girl who wrote school plays and made her friends act in them to an adolescent who got into dark humor, Yashica has built her own universe of peculiar characters inspired by great cinema. She has imbibed the philosophies of David Fincher's characters but lives like the eccentricity of Phoebe Waller Bridge's women. Her metahumans are those who can use the power of words to create an elixir of emotions and bring them to life on screen. Jordan Peele, Issa Rae, Tina Fey, Amy Poehler, Ilana-Abbi, Raj-DK, Anurag Kashyap, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, and others are her Marvel's Avengers. With over two years of experience as a content writer, her writing pieces are well-researched, with a sprinkle of her opinions/inferences that keep the audiences engaged. She is still exploring more on the anime scene but is highly intrigued by it. The cinephile in her makes her appreciate the intricacies of filmmaking. You will get a lot more insight into it in her articles and thoroughly enjoy her explanations. Well, someday, you might see Yashica as one of the writers for a movie-- it's her ultimate dream!
