In 2016, the world heard “Blackpink in your area” for the first time. Ever since the world of K-pop witnessed the meteoric rise of the group Blackpink.
Whether it’s their electrifying performances or chart-topping hits, the four-member girl group has become a phenomenon in the music industry.
However, people are now wondering if the band has succumbed to the “7-year” curse of the K-pop industry. These speculations arose after rumors circulated about the girl group going their separate ways. But what is the truth behind the delay of contract renewal and split?
Let’s find out!
After the recent reports of Jisoo and Jennie leaving YGE to start their labels emerged, a rumor of band disbandment has been circulated on the internet. YGE quickly denied the report while stating, “We are in discussion with the members.” Moreover, Sports Seoul revealed that the members are working on the ‘separate yet together’ strategy. This implies that the group will stand even if the members work individually, like Mamamoo and Super Junior.
What Is Going on with BLACKPINK?
Blackpink recently concluded their ‘Born Pink’ world tour, one of the largest tours in the history of K-pop girl groups. The last show was organized in Seoul on 17 September 2023 with 1.8 million viewers. The show went through 34 cities with 66 astonishing performances by the group.
This year, the group also grabbed the attention of fans with their Coachella performances and dating rumors with other celebrities. But, what else was highly discussed in the fandom was their contract with YGE and the disbandment of the group.
On 21 September 2023, Rosé decided to join YGE again and renewed her contract with the company. Meanwhile, Lisa and Jisoo were offered an enormous deal, but eventually, both rejected it. This fueled the rumors of disbandment.
Moreover, a couple of days later, on 25 September 2023, reports came out stating that Jennie and Jisoo were leaving YGE. It was revealed that they both are set to form their own company. The company will be a single-artist management that will manage the respective member’s schedules.
Out of the four members, three of Blackpink decided on their paths, while Lisa rejected another offer from YGE. This was the second time Lisa rejected another significant offer. Although Lisa’s stance on the situation is yet to be confirmed, possibilities are that she will also move out of the company to join another label.
Is BLACKPINK Disbanding?
As the group’s 7-year contract came to an end in 2023, the internet was buzzing with gossip about the disbandment of Blackpink. The fandom of Blackpink, Blinks showed their concerns about whether the group will stand and continue or will get disbanded due to the departure of members from YGE.
In the meantime, YGE took no time to blink and denied the alleged reports. The company released an official statement while refusing the fact of members leaving the company and stated,
“Nothing has been decided on Blackpink’s contract renewal and future activities. We are in discussion with the members”.
Moreover, while performing in Seoul for the last tour of “Born Pink,” Jennie expressed her emotions for the group by saying,
“We will continue to be the Blackpink you love.”
Her statement suggests that no matter whether they will renew their contract or not, they will keep standing as Blackpink.
Additionally, Sports Seoul reported that the members are working on the “separate yet together’ strategy,” similar to Mamamoo and Super Junior. In this strategy, members will continue to perform as a group for six months a year. The rest of the months will be consumed in their schedules.
