In the world of showbiz, TV shows, and overall Hollywood, actors leaving series, even long-running ones, isn’t uncommon.
However, writers and showrunners being forced to write out a character because of the unfortunate demise of the actor playing it adds an extra layer of guilt and sadness to the already morbid affair.
Everyone saw it happen with Chadwick Boseman, whose unfortunate death made Marvel Studios bosses decide to kill off the character of T’Challa entirely. However, there have been cases where the producers have decided to recast.
The same conundrum is now swirling around the makers of Euphoria season 3 because of the demise of Angus Cloud, who portrayed Fez in the HBO Max show.
In the season 2 finale of Euphoria, Fez caught a stray bullet fired by Ash that knocked him to the ground. He was left watching the raid from the floor while bleeding out. After the police killed Ash, they handcuffed Fez and took him away. It’s uncertain if he will survive the wound. The character’s fate is now even more in question after the unfortunate and untimely demise of actor Angus Cloud.
Does Fez Die in Euphoria?
In the season two finale of Euphoria, Fez gets entangled in a raid and is hit by a stray bullet fired by Ash. Viewers see him fall to the ground as he deliriously watches the rest of the shootout and Ash’s subsequent death at the hands of the police. Then he gets rolled over by the police and handcuffed out of the house.
While this doesn’t imply that he survived the bullet wound, it doesn’t mean he died either. There were early speculations that Fez would survive in season 3 and resume his romance with Lexi. After all, if he were going to be killed off, it would have been done in season two, as was planned.
But creator Sam Levinson spared him that fate because of his popularity. But now, the situation is different after Angus Cloud’s death. The 25-year-old actor was declared dead on July 31 at his family home by the Oakland Police Department. As per The Mirror, The police department released a statement saying.
“The Oakland Police Department (OPD) is investigating a death that occurred today, July 31, 2023, just after 11:30 AM, in the 200 block of Euclid Avenue. The victim was pronounced deceased at the scene.”
The cause of death hasn’t been determined as of yet, and an active investigation is going on.
What Will Happen to Fez in Euphoria Season 3?
The official Euphoria account shared a statement regarding Angus Cloud’s death, saying:
“We are incredibly saddened to learn of the passing of Angus Cloud. He was immensely talented and a beloved part of the HBO and Euphoria family. We extend our deepest condolences to his friends and family during this difficult time.”
It can be incredibly tone-deaf to talk about the future of a character on a show when the beloved actor has passed away, and his family is grappling with unbearable grief. However, fans of the show are interested in knowing what will happen to Fez next. As such, it looks like Fez could be written off for now.
After all, his fate was left ambiguous due to the gunshot wound. So it will probably be better to end the storyline. After all, recasting might seem tasteless to many. Instead, giving the character and, in essence, the actor a fitting farewell and a respectful memorial will probably be the way forward.
However, it remains to be seen how season 3 of Euphoria wraps up since it has been pushed back due to production delays and the ongoing WGA and SAG-AFTRA strike. More information is being awaited about the conclusion of Fez’s storyline in the show.
