The finale of the American audience’s favorite British detective drama television program, Endeavour, aired on July 2, 2023.
The program follows Endeavour Morse during his formative years as a police officer and is set from 1965 to 1970. Morse conducts investigations around Oxford while collaborating with his senior associate DI Fred Thursday.
Inspector Morse’s mystery drama series had a precursor called Endeavour, which ran for nine seasons and 36 episodes. The nine-season show covers the years 1965 through 1972. It debuted with a pilot episode from 1965 in 2012, and the first season premiered 1965 in 2013.
The second season was set in 1966, the third, the fourth in 1967, and the fifth in 1968, and subsequent seasons continued chronologically.
Did Morse Kill Himself?
Morse is seen leaving in his black Jaguar as the series comes to a close, indicating that he has survived the turbulent events. But viewers are left with a feeling of mystery and apprehension about what will come after seeing a cryptic sight of an elderly guy who looks like Morse driving a red Jaguar.
Morse makes the devastating discovery that Thursday is the real murderer who stabbed Tomahawk to protect his son.
When they learn this awful fact, Thursday and his wife Win decide to flee with Sam to protect him from the motorcycle gang’s retaliation.
What Happened to Morse in Endeavour?
Morse learns that Peter Williams, also known as Tomahawk, who was a motorcycle gang member and ended up becoming the murder victim of Endeavour’s last season, was alive until recently.
Morse doesn’t reveal this to anyone, but Sam, Win, and Fred must leave Morse and move elsewhere. Endeavour exited Blenheim Palace before boarding his black Jaguar in the film’s concluding scene.
At the end of the episode, Endeavour informed Thursday that his son Sam is not secure. In the end, he informs Fred that he, his wife, and Sam must leave town, but he gives the Detective his word that he will watch out for his daughter Joan.
Who Died at the End of Endeavour?
The bodies of Josiah Landesman and Brenda Lewis, his former secretary, are found on the grounds of the defunct Blenheim Vale Boys’ School in the episode’s opening scene.
Morse believes Landesman was also involved in the unsolved death of student Peter Williams, whose corpse was never discovered. He assures DS Peter Jakes, a former coworker, that he will continue looking for Williams’ remains.
Thursday runs into an old coworker, who advises him to give up on the Blenheim Vale probe. After realizing that his family may be in danger, Thursday uses his connections to send Jim Strange to Kidlington. Morse keeps excavating the school grounds to locate Peter Williams’ remains.
Finally, Morse locates Peter Williams’ body, putting an end to his investigation. In the closing scene, it is revealed that Thursday was shot, leaving his fate uncertain, and Joan departs town with Jim Strange.
Endeavor is available to stream on IVTX.
