Joe Madison, a prominent figure in the radio world, left many of his loyal listeners wondering about his whereabouts.

Recently, he hasn’t been gracing the airwaves as he used to. But fear not, because we’re here to spill the beans on what’s been happening with the iconic radio host.

Joe Madison, known as ‘The Black Eagle,’ passed away at 74 on January 31, 2024, due to a recurrence of prostate cancer. He announced his hiatus from SiriusXM Urban View on December 20, 2023, explaining, “I was diagnosed in 2009, but this year, the cancer resurfaced.”

Joe, known as ‘The Black Eagle,’ passed away at the age of 74 on January 31, 2024, due to prostate cancer.

He has left behind a legacy that touched countless lives. His career began as an activist, and by the age of 24, he had already become the National Political Director for the NAACP.

Heartbroken to hear about the passing of Mr Joe Madison. He was a true civil rights & radio legend. He was always so kind to me & encouraged me to be my authentic self, tell the truth & to “put it where the goats can get it”

His radio journey commenced in 1980, and he graced the airwaves at various stations, from Detroit to Philadelphia and Washington DC.

In 2013, Joe Madison made an exclusive move to SiriusXM, where he hosted mornings on the ‘Urban View’ channel. His contributions to radio were so significant that he was inducted into the National Radio Hall of Fame in 2019.

Really sorry to hear of the passing of radio legend Joe Madison. His passion would literally reverberate through his mic. He was a tireless activist for justice and a freedom fighter. Rest In Peace 🙏🏾 pic.twitter.com/FpWVpuV06G

Joe Madison had announced on December 20, 2023, that he would be taking some time away from his beloved show on SiriusXM Urban View because his prostate cancer, which he had courageously battled before, had made a return.

Joe had said- “As many listeners are aware, I was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2009,” and added, “Unfortunately, earlier this year, the cancer resurfaced.”

The movement has lost one of its most iconic voices.

Joe Madison was a force who used his platform to fight injustice & uplift our community. I always enjoyed our conversations.

I’m praying for his family, friends, and all who knew & listened to him. He will be missed. pic.twitter.com/Z0GYBNq46q

Initially, Joe continued to do his show, thanks to the unwavering support of his wife and SiriusXM.

However, as the Thanksgiving hiatus ended, Joe’s health took a downturn, making it increasingly challenging for him to host his daily four-hour live show. As a result, he decided to take a step back and focus on his well-being.

This was April 1, 2023. Joe Madison and I were at @bowiestateuniversity for the dedication of their performing arts center to @dionnewarwick. Joe was gonna. call an Uber and I told him that I would drop him off at home. We had our usually spirited conversation. It was full of 1/3 pic.twitter.com/3czDQfcqla

In his absence, SiriusXM continued to air ‘Madison Classics’ during the regular time slot. Joe expressed his gratitude for his fans’ support and asked for privacy during his treatment and time with his family.

The Madison family has released a heartfelt statement after his death that reads (via Radio Insight):

“It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of our beloved husband and father, Joe Madison. He passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family.”

Joe’s dedication to fighting for the marginalized and his famous question, ‘What are you going to do about it?,’ will forever resonate with his listeners.

Rest in Power Joe Madison! 🙏🏾 pic.twitter.com/AUJiTkUmvm
