Note: Trisha identifies as non-binary and goes by the pronouns they/them. The article addresses them with the preferred pronouns.
It is not a “versus” situation but more like a betrayal by your friend.
An online friendship is like ordering a gorgeous piece of a showpiece, taking pictures with it, and then forgetting it exists. The value of these friendships is bounded by the camera lens; when the shutters are off, the friendship is gone.
Colleen Ballinger’s years of “Mean Girl” pattern resurfaces to haunt her. The controversy erupted last month when 20-year-old Youtuber Adam McIntyre uploaded a video on his fan experience with Colleen Ballinger, aka Miranda Sings, when he was a minor (14-17 years old).
But more disturbingly, this is not the first time he spoke out on the severe allegations. His video in 2020 was swept under the rug by Colleen’s legion of fans. However, this time, the internet has anchored this situation, spilling all the ugly tea on Ballinger’s inappropriate conduct.
Here is the entire timeline of the allegations against Colleen Ballinger.
In short, Adam accused Ballinger of grooming and sexualizing him as a minor. And when the heat went beyond control, she finally addressed the allegations last week in a video that shall be forever engraved in Youtube history. Read here for a complete breakdown.
Basically, it was not an apology, but more like that she is a victim of the hate bandwagon, and her past behavior is taken out of context and blown out of proportion. But if you think that’s bad, wait until you watch the video as she whips out her ukulele.
After delivering the “Best Worst Youtube Apology,” Colleen is back in the news feed with more disturbing antics.
Trisha Paytas And Colleen Ballinger’s Friendship
Colleen and Trisha are both vintage Youtubers. Trisha has been uploading on the platform since 2007 and has racked up 939 million views with over 5 million subscribers. Meanwhile, Colleen’s main channel, Miranda Sings, has been active since 2008, where she plays a character of a “theatre kid” in a satire and has over 2 billion views from all her videos.
The point is– both are compatible matches to be quintessential Youtube collaborators. Many OG Youtubers have been struggling with low engagement in the past couple of years as several channels have died down. To restore their fanbase, many creators are collaborating so that they can enjoy a collective viewership.
Colleen and Trisha did collaborate on several occasions with either challenge videos or simple Mukbang chitchat videos.
Trisha had an ugly spat with their former co-host, Ethan Klein, on their podcast, “Frenemies,” which at one point was one of the most viewed podcasts on Youtube.
Colleen thought it would be an excellent opportunity to get into the podcast scene with Trisha, who also wants to revive their popularity. Hence, together they started a podcast called “Oversharing With Colleen and Trisha” just last month.
Although the podcast was not as popular as Frenemies, it still showed a cordial and empathetic relationship between Colleen and Trisha, who are both mothers and have much in common with their Youtube careers.
That is until a couple of days back when Trisha felt a sharp stab in the back…
Trisha Paytas’s Video On Colleen Ballinger Explained
Before getting into the video, here’s a brief history lesson on how Trisha Paytas would handle confrontation.
A few years back, Trisha confronted fellow Youtuber Gabbie Hanna, who spread false rumors about their STDs. And this is how Trisha dragged Gabbie–
Let’s just say history got more dramatic whenever Trisha Paytas uploaded a video setting on their kitchen floor.
But this time, Trisha uploaded a video with a calm demeanor and mature stance on the whole situation.
The video starts with Trisha being disappointed by Colleen for breaking their trust. They address early on in the video about their profession as a sex worker–
“It’s a topic I don’t take lightly, and I can’t take lightly. We already have a lot of stigma, misconceptions, and allegations against us as sex workers, so I need to nip this in the bud.
I do not condone at all sending unsolicited nudes to anybody, of anybody – sex worker or not. I think using someone’s nudes as a way to hurt them, make fun of them, [and] be mean is the lowest form of intelligence.
I think that’s so inhumane; I think that’s so disgusting for anyone.”
Here are the key takeaways from the video–
- Colleen had sent unsolicited nudes of Trisha Paytas to two minors, one of which was Adam McIntyre.
- Colleen also mocked and body-shamed Trisha Paytas by organizing a viewing party of Trisha’s Only Fans content.
- Colleen had “vehemnetly denied” that she ever sent those nudes to anyone and that some fan must have sent the unsolicited pics.
Trisha says, “That should never have happened, and again, this really hurts sex workers as a whole; this is out there, and it looks like we’re some deviants because it was used in this way. It’s disgusting.”
- Trisha also mentions how they felt betrayed since they often visited each other’s homes–“A grown woman in their 30s doing this to someone who’s been in their house, been around their family, you have some issues; it’s a sickness.”
- Trisha concludes the video with her stance on their friendship and the podcast–
“I don’t stand by her, I’m embarrassed to be associated with her, I’m embarrassed for the fans that she messaged those to.”
“That’s it. That is my statement on it, and I’m not going to speak on this again; I will never speak on Colleen again. She just does not exist to me anymore.”
“This is not me cancelling her, she will always be around. I’m sure she’ll be fine. I’m just publicly disavowing any association I have with her.”
- Colleen also sends her “Ukulele apology video” to Trisha, maybe in hopes of justifying her actions, but all it does is add fuel to the fire.
Colleen’s Toxic Pattern
Colleen has been in the Youtube scene since its inception. So you can imagine the kind of history she must be a part of. But some of her past friends are not even surprised by these allegations, considering her “mean girls” attitude (pretentious and fake).
According to the above video, Colleen used to bad mouth her husband (now divorced) behind his back. Fame reached her head as she started showing her true colors. She would also often mock her fans during the fan meet.
Then there were allegations of her racist, entitled, rude behavior on the sets of “Haters Back Off.” She also did a blackface and performed Beyonce’s song.
Her loyal supporters always submerged her toxic behavior. But then her recent tour revealed more inappropriate conduct with minors.
In conclusion, Colleen has to bear the consequences of her sickening actions and her inaction toward the allegations.
What are your thoughts on Trisha’s video? Did Colleen violate someone’s privacy? Do you believe that Colleen should be de-platformed for severe allegations?
