If you have just completed watching episode 10 of Bungo Stray Dogs Season 5 and ran helter-skelter to find out if Dazai is really dead, then I can completely relate with you. Why? Because an hour ago, I went through the same frantic search.
Thus, I will save you the hassle of toggling through ten tabs to find a definite answer. Episode 10 adapted chapter 109 of Bungo Stray Dogs, in which Osamu Dazai was shot in the head by none other than Chuuya, the guy he had the best chemistry.
This has left fans devastated, and many are hopeful that Dazai is still alive. He has already returned from near-death situations countless times!
Osamu Dazai was shot in the forehead in episode 10 of Bungo Stray Dogs season 5. The episode adapted chapter 109 of the manga, where Chuuya shot Dazai at point blank. While Dazai looked done for, it is not confirmed whether he is dead yet.
The most logical next step at this point is to read the manga and find out what has actually happened to Dazai. Unfortunately, Bungo Stray Gogs has only received 110 chapters so far, with the last chapter having no mention of Dazai’s condition.
The anime has caught up to the manga, and there are no more chapters left to adapt. Thus, you can only wait for the final episode of the anime to air to have a clear idea of whether Dazai is really dead or not.
While the anime panned out from the Dazai scene as soon as he was shot, in the manga, the scene lingered on for a bit longer. Even after being shot in the head, Dazai said, “At long last, I’ve been looking forward to this…” before his consciousness betrayed him.
It is improbable for anyone to utter a few words after being shot in the head, so how did Dazai manage it? Thus, it might be possible that Dazai is not dead yet and is simply bidding his time for a new move.
Killing Dazai in Bungo Stray Dogs is like killing Gojo in Jujutsu Kaisen or Levi in Attack on Titan. Fans are bound to be enraged if their favorite character is to say goodbye so suddenly.
Fans have already come up with plenty of theories for the scene. Firstly, the manga shows three bullet holes on the wall behind Dazai. Two for when Chuuya shot him in the shoulders and one for the abdomen wound. However, there are no bullet marks for the last shot. There is a chance that the bullet only grazed Dazai due to Chuuya’s gravity manipulation.
Already in the chapter, Chuuya is seen missing his shots; it might be possible that he has overcome Fyodor’s control and is pretending to have shot Dazai to gain Fyodor’s trust. It is an essential step to trick Fyosor’s watchful eyes.
Thus, when Dazai said, “I’ve been looking forward to this,” he might have been referring to Chuuya regaining consciousness.
These theories definitely have girth to them, but it all depends on the author’s next steps. For all we know, he could have really gotten rid of Dazai at the hands of his forever rival, Chuuya.
To know for sure, we have to wait for a couple of chapters, if not for an entire new season of the anime, to get our answers. So, do you think Dazai is dead?
