Marvel Studios has transformed its six-episode Disney+ TV show into a full-length feature film. Announced in December 2020, this project will have Don Cheadle reprising his role as War Machine, aka Colonel James, with Yassir Lester retaining his position as the head writer for the same.
Although the movie is in its early development phase, no directorial name has been announced yet. Regarding current information, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige only revealed the logo for the then-called six-episode series at Disney’s D23 Expo earlier this month.
Some sources suggest that Marvel was committed to depicting the story the right way, and the best way to do that was to give the project a theatrical release. The film is scheduled to come out between 2023-2025, along with other MCU projects in the same order.
The storyline that the film follows is an adaptation of Iron Man (Vol. 1) #225 (December 1987) to #231 (June 1988), which was written by David Michelinie and Bob Layton and illustrated by Mark Bright. In the comics, the issue, which was earlier dubbed ‘The Stark Wars,’ shows Iron Man facing Spymaster, who steals the Stark Tech. The consequences follow a showdown of several armors highlighting the title ‘Armor Wars.’

Don Cheadle, who has been in the MCU for a long time, made his debut in the franchise with Iron Man 2. (2010). His next appearance happens to be in Secret Invasion featuring Samuel L. Jackson and Ben Mendelsohn, the 2023 Disney+ series.
Rest assured, fans would be hyped either way, as Don Cheadle’s portrayal of Colonel James Rhodes has always been the fan favorite. We hope Marvel does justice to the standalone project of our beloved War Machine while he appears on the big screen yelling, “Boom! You looking for this!?”
