The internet is Snooping on people and declaring them dead!

Let’s dive into the swirling vortex of the internet where truth and fiction dance a tango so tight it’s hard to tell one from the other.

Rumors are buzzing like bees in a bonnet, this time targeting none other than the hip-hop maestro, the cool, the inimitable as the death hoax “drop it like it’s hot!” Seems like netizens are getting too conceited in spreading death hoaxes of the biggest names on the planet.

But the irony of today’s story is, imagine quitting smoking one day, and a few days later, you are pronounced dead.

A Facebook page titled ‘R.I.P. Snoop Dogg’ popped up randomly in the feed on December 4, 2023. Nearly a million likes strong, the page paints a somber picture of the rapper’s alleged demise. It’s convincing and spreads like wildfire. The fact of the matter is– NO! Snoop Dogg did not pass away. This is yet another internet hoax targeting a celebrity, and the rapper’s representatives have officially confirmed he is alive and well.

Unraveling the Hoax: Did Snoop Dogg Really Die?

It’s a bizarre phenomenon, this obsession with celebrity death hoaxes. The ‘R.I.P. Snoop Dogg’ Facebook saga is just the latest chapter. The page claimed, “At about 11 a.m. E.T. on Sunday (December 03, 2023), our beloved rapper Snoop Dogg passed away.” Cue the internet meltdown. Fans are shocked, tweets are flying, and the rumor mill is working overtime. But wait, there’s a twist!

Come Monday, Snoop’s reps set the record straight. “He joins the long list of celebrities who have been victimized by this hoax. He’s still alive and well, stop believing what you see on the internet,” they asserted.

So, how do these hoaxes take root? It’s a mix of rapid social media sharing, a thirst for sensational news, and, let’s be honest, a pinch of boredom.

And this is not the first time the internet has killed Mr. Dogg. He was dead multiple times in 2016 and 2017.

my brother just told me snoop dogg died from a "death hoax"

Why Do Celebrity Death Hoax Trend More Than Any Other News?

You have invested your time, emotions, sentiments, devotion, and money on your idol. You consumed all their ventures just to express your support. And then, one day, out of the blue, the news feed is set ablaze that your idol has passed away.

The whiplash, concussion, and mental cartwheel from one sensational headline is what the trolls thrive on. These little internet oompa-loompas want chaos and anarchy in the middle of a slow news cycle. Hence, such death hoaxes have become quite common yet should never be normalized.

Then again, this raises another branch of the question: Why does such news continue to trend?

Ask yourself, were you really sad, or did it give you a sensational itch and the urge to tell your friend first and gossip about the idol’s life and legacy? This is the main reason why such posts related to celebrity death hoaxes get more engagement.

Since we are such social beings, we thrive on any form of attention our tweet or post gets, which also validates our opinions. And this collective sentiment is why news like “R.I.P. Snoop Dogg” starts trending.

rip the 420 king Snoop Dogg he’s not dead he’s just giving up smoke ✊🏻 😔 pic.twitter.com/qfiX3bFIo2

So, what’s the takeaway here? First, take a deep breath and hold your horses and tears before sharing such news. Second, remember that the internet is a wild beast, often untamed by facts, and shouldn’t be taken as the gospel truth. And third, maybe it’s time we asked ourselves why we’re so captivated by these morbid hoaxes.

Are we craving drama in our daily scroll? Or is it a twisted way of showing love for our favorite stars by mourning them prematurely? Share your thoughts below.

Remember, in a world where news travels faster than light, a little skepticism can be your best friend.

From a little girl who wrote school plays and made her friends act in them to an adolescent who got into dark humor, Yashica has built her own universe of peculiar characters inspired by great cinema. She has imbibed the philosophies of David Fincher's characters but lives like the eccentricity of Phoebe Waller Bridge's women. Her metahumans are those who can use the power of words to create an elixir of emotions and bring them to life on screen. Jordan Peele, Issa Rae, Tina Fey, Amy Poehler, Ilana-Abbi, Raj-DK, Anurag Kashyap, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, and others are her Marvel's Avengers. With over two years of experience as a content writer, her writing pieces are well-researched, with a sprinkle of her opinions/inferences that keep the audiences engaged. She is still exploring more on the anime scene but is highly intrigued by it. The cinephile in her makes her appreciate the intricacies of filmmaking. You will get a lot more insight into it in her articles and thoroughly enjoy her explanations. Well, someday, you might see Yashica as one of the writers for a movie-- it's her ultimate dream!
