Ever get the sinking feeling of logging on to a social media or gaming platform and finding that the person you followed, watched, and played with is nowhere to be seen?
Twitch users and Fortnite players are experiencing this with streamer MrFreshAsian. There is one question that everyone has been wondering for months- where is he?
Harley Campbell, aka MrFreshAsian, lost his Twitch partnership on August 3, 2021, and since then, he has reduced streaming and uploading videos of Fortnite. Campbell’s YouTube account, Fresh, has 7.7 million subscribers, yet the last video uploaded is eight months old. However, he is healthy and has stated that he is taking time off to focus on other ventures.
Who Is MrFreshAsian?
Harley Campbell/ MrFreshAsian was born in Hong Kong on March 4, 2002, to a Chinese mother, Shay Danrich, and an Australian father, Joshua Danrich. His middle name is An-Long, which means dragon in Chinese.
Campbell didn’t have a great childhood. His parents divorced, and then he came to live with his father. What drew him to gaming was an aggressive stepbrother who beat him up. When his mother saw all the bruises on his body, she filed for full custody when he was a teen.
At 16, he tried getting into the electrical trade, but that didn’t work out. So, he switched to professional gaming. Today, his Twitch account has more than 950k subscribers.
What Happened to Streamer MrFreshAsian?
FreshAsian is a competitive Fortnite player on Twitch and YouTube. He got his breakthrough in 2018 when his performance in the Oceanic competitive Fortnite event earned him a massive following.
His Twitter/X account has been nuked for a while, and he has not been streaming regularly on Twitch either. Harley Campbell’s YouTube account, called Fresh, boasts 7.7 million subscribers, but his last update was eight months ago.
So the question is inevitable- what’s going on with MrFreshAsian? Is he alright?
Questions about MrFreshAsian’s viability as a Twitch streamer were first raised in 2021 after he lost his partnership with Twitch on August 3, 2021.
The streamer had signed with Twitch just a year before, in September 2020, and in just a year, he had become a highly followed Fortnite gamer on the platform.
With the partnership gone, he lost his Subscriber Badges, Twitch Bits, and Subscriptions. Since that incident, he has drastically reduced the number of his social media posts and streams from year to year.
The exact reason Twitch removed their partnership with him has never been revealed. However, there are endless theories.
One states that the Australian was penalized despite being one of the most prominent streamers because he was promoting a rival platform, YouTube.
After all, with millions of subscribers, he earns a lot from the insane number of views his YouTube videos get.
Another theory mentions that he promoted adblockers on the Twitch platform. On June 27, 2021, he said in one of his streams, “Guys, if you all don’t like ads, just get an adblocker. Simple.”
However, blocking ads wouldn’t benefit him in any way. Fresh even admitted that his contract stated that he had to run ads or he would be in trouble. It looks like that’s exactly what happened.
Twitch withdrew its partnership with him since he tried to drive viewers towards getting adblockers instead of subscriptions.
Once Twitch cut off Fresh, many viewers thought he would permanently go on YouTube. For a while, he did. But, over time, he began posting erratically and stopped uploading videos months ago.
Since then, his dwindling number of posts made his fans question if he was physically healthy. Thankfully, he was. Also, over the years, he has taken multiple hiatuses for different reasons.
Harley Campbell also said that he is focusing on other ventures. For example, a year back, he posted that he would be reducing his streams since he was busy moving into a new house.
Another reason he could be posting less is because he had complained of burnout in the past. These are the leading causes behind MrFreshAsian withdrawing from streaming a lot.
On the MrFreshAsian subreddit, u/bibliophagist69 asked a few months ago, “Where is fresh?” The user later updated, “I saw on his Instagram story the other day he was playing duos with Lazar, so I think he’s okay.”
So, he has been playing and hasn’t left Fortnite gaming altogether.
