Rage, sadness, and then acceptance. That’s the range of emotions I felt when I tried getting into Fortnite, but instead of going to the lobby screen, I found myself trapped on the unending loading screen.

The screen soon popped up with a message- ‘the Fortnite servers aren’t responding.’ It isn’t what I wanted to see when I sat down to enjoy a gaming session, but the good news is that we know why there’s downtime. So we can guesstimate when the servers can come back online.

Fortnite is undergoing scheduled maintenance on November 3, 2023. This is the v27.00 update and will begin Chapter 4, Season 5. Epic Games tweeted that the downtime would start at 3 a.m. EST. No set time has been declared for the servers’ return, but the update process could take 6 to 12 hours.

There’s a Fortnite server downtime for a simple reason- for regularly scheduled maintenance and installing the update that will usher in the new Chapter 4 Season 5. This will mark the last downtime for Chapter 4 Season 4.

Fortnite has informed through various social media channels that it will roll out the anticipated v27.00 update on November 3, 2023, which will bring in the much-awaited and upgraded Season 5 of Fortnite.

The server maintenance is still ongoing at the time of its writing. It began at 3 a.m. EST / 8 a.m. GMT, and once it’s done, we can log in normally. But the question is- when will the servers come back online?

Fortnite’s scheduled v27.00 update is taking longer than usual maintenance procedures because the file size is bigger than before. Epic Games and Fortnite put out a tweet saying: “update file size will be larger than normal on some platforms.”

So, this means we must have patience as the downtime looks more prolonged than usual. Generally, maintenance takes around 2-6 hours. But this time, it can take anywhere from 8 to 12 hours as well.

To make matters worse, certain users might have to wait even longer because of issues like internet speed and the platforms they use. You can check Fortnite’s current status at the Epic Games’ status update site: Epic Games.

At the time of writing, the update site states that the Fortnite and Epic Games websites are operational, but the game services, matchmaking, voice chats, Fortnite crew, item shops, stats, and leaderboards are all under maintenance.

When the downtime is over and the updates are completed, we will all play Chapter 4, Season 5, which will have a new loot pool, map, Battle Stars, and Battle Pass functionality.

In fact, the upcoming map will harken back to Chapter 1, something that only the original players at that time could experience. So, there will be storylines, landmarks, and locations based on that phase. It will be like time traveling in more ways than one.

Epic Games has put in much effort to make this new season. As such, the only thing to do now is to wait for the update to get over so that we can jump into a new and improved phase of Fortnite.

What are your thoughts about the upcoming Chapter 4 Season 5? Were you impressed with the trailer? Does Epic need to hurry up with the server maintenance generally?
