The end of the marvelous dream: Are Marvel bosses desperately searching for a solution for this actor?
Are Marvel’s days of reigning over the box office over? Not quite. There’s still gas in the tank even though criticism about the poor VFX and subpar writing of their latest projects has permeated social media.
She-Hulk, Secret Invasion, Thor: Love and Thunder, and Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania are some projects slandered online by fans for the abovementioned reasons.
But that’s just the tip of the iceberg. There are more significant problems ahead, like this famous star who is making MCU bosses reconsider all of their plans regarding his character. But who is he?
Variety reported that Marvel Studios is on the verge of cutting ties with Kang actor Jonathan Majors after he became embroiled in a domestic violence case. The site also said that Marvel grew frosty with him even before the arrest because Ant-Man 3 failed to do well with audiences, and his publicists and managers dropped him.
Is Marvel Cutting Ties With This Popular Actor?
Jonathan Majors and his character Kang are the biggest question mark for Marvel and the MCU. Variety reported that in September 2023, Marvel executives and creatives, including Kevin Feige, met to discuss the most pressing issue- what to do with Majors?
Initially, Marvel had planned on making Kang the main villain of the new phase. He was loved by audiences who saw him in Loki season 1. Also, he was even going to get his film- Avengers: Kang Dynasty. But now, every plan regarding him has been halted.
The actor has been embroiled in a high-profile domestic violence case. His team did try to dismiss the case, but on October 25, the judge presiding over it denied the motion. So now, Jonathan Majors will stand trial from November 29, 2023.
His talent agency, CAA, has also dropped him. In fact, they let him go even before his arrest for brutal conduct towards their staff. Currently, he has a 50/50 chance of winning or losing the case. But regardless of the outcome, his reputation has been besmirched.
So, Marvel is looking at ways to work around this major problem. In fact, they were cold about Majors’ future in the MCU since Ant-Man 3 did poorly critically and commercially. Variety quoted a top source who had seen the final episode of Loki season 2, saying:
“Marvel is truly f**ked with the whole Kang angle, and they haven’t had an opportunity to rewrite until very recently [because of the WGA strike]. But I don’t see a path to how they move forward with him.”
So, how can Marvel solve the Kang problem?

Variety revealed that some solutions have been discussed. One is introducing Doctor Doom instead of Kang as the next villain. Another option is to recast Majors. After all, it has been done before with Don Cheadle replacing Terrence Howard in Iron Man 2.
There have also been talks of bringing back the original Avengers for a film. This would mean that stars like Robert Downey Jr. and Scarlett Johansson would reprise their roles of Iron Man and Black Widow again. But this solution hadn’t been finalized because of actor salaries.
Regardless of what plan Marvel creatives ultimately come up with, it’s almost certain that Majors’ time as Kang is over.
