Loki season 2 is going in full swing with a great pace, and so many teases related to the Sacred Timeline and the TVA. However, it continues to bring more surprises to Marvel Fans.
In the third episode of Loki season 2, there was a reference to Balder the Brave, who is believed to be one of the Asgardians and a fellow warrior who fought alongside Thor.
So, who exactly is Balder the Brave? How is he related to Thor and Loki? And is he really a Norse God? Let’s explore everything in detail below.
Loki Season 2: Who Is Balder the Brave?
The third episode of Loki prompted Loki and Mobius to travel to 1893 Chicago to find Miss Minutes so that they could access the Temporal Loom of the TVA and stabilize the Sacred Timeline.
While the episode has been quite eventful with the reveal of Victor Timely, there was also an important reference to one of the most prominent Marvel characters: Balder the Brave.
While walking along the streets of Chicago, Loki spots three statues of Norse Gods: Odin, Thor, and Balder. Although it was brief, and there were only a couple of dialogues highlighting the scene, it may be more significant than we imagined.
Apparently, Balder is the half-brother of Thor, who was introduced into the Marvel Comics in 1962 by the late Stan Lee and late Jack Kirby. He is nicknamed Balder the Brave for his fierce nature and is believed to excel in all aspects.
Balder has everything a God needs: speed, stamina, strength, and more than anything, and he can teleport to Earth by himself without the help of Bifrost. He has been a crucial figure in Marvel Comics since his debut in 1962.
He aided Thor and Loki in many endeavors and even temporarily acted as the ruler of Asgard during Thor’s absence a few times. That being said, he was always a confused character among readers because Balder was initially depicted as an adopted child of Odin.
Is Balder the Brave a Norse God?
Due to the initial reveals the comic readers faced, they believed Balder was just an adopted kid by the royal court of Asgard. However, later, he was revealed to be the legitimate son of Odin and Frigga.
Apparently, they abandoned him due to the prophecy of his death, leading to the event of Ragnarok. Nonetheless, he proved to be the most valuable member of Asgard alongside Thor.
Since he is the son of Odin and Frigga, he is a Norse God, and there is no denying the fact.
Will Balder the Brave Appear in the MCU?
Even though there have been several Marvel films that covered the mythology of Asgard, Balder has never been introduced before, apart from a slight mention of him in Thor: The Dark World.
Nonetheless, there is a chance of Balder soon making his entry to the MCU. While Loki season 2 hinting at his existence is a major factor to consider this possibility, there is also another reason.
In the Marvel Zombies comic book, Balder meets Nick Fury and fights alongside the superheroes to deal with a planet full of Zombies.
Since Marvel Zombies is being adapted into an animated series and will soon be released sometime in 2024, he could very well make an appearance.
There are also plenty more opportunities in the future as we delve deeper into the concept of Multiverse, and Balder could also appear in live-action.
So, what do you think about the easter egg related to Balder the Brave in Loki season 2? Do you believe he will be introduced into the MCU soon?
