Disenchantment, initially released in August 2018, has seen five fabulous, although a few underappreciated seasons worth of entertainment. While much has transpired in four seasons, the recent fifth season left fans with a befitting conclusion.
While the ending isn’t mysterious enough to put the viewers in a dilemma, it does pose certain questions, like how Mora came back to life, why Bean didn’t choose to become a queen and more.
So, if you’ve recently finished watching Disenchantment’s fifth season and looking for answers regarding its ending and potential sixth season, read on to find out.
Disenchantment Season 5: A Quick Recap Leading to the Events of Its Conclusion
Although Disenchantment season four’s ending was disappointing for the fans, the fifth season made up for that with incredible adventures from Bean, her personal demon, Luci, and their elf companion, Elfo.
After Dagmar pushes Bean off the balcony, she is rescued by her lover, Mora the Mermaid, which leads Bean to plot a revolt to stop her mother from achieving immortality.
She went on a search for her father, King Zog, in Steamland, but their return to Dreamland to stop her mother was halted due to her psychological tendencies ignited by the prophecy of hurting a loved one, which she thought was her mother, Dagmar but it was later revealed as Mora, her lover.
When they finally engage in an ultimate battle with Dagmar, Bad Bean, Bean’s evil doppelganger, tricks Bean into killing Mora, which activates Dreamland’s magic, prompting Dagmar almost to achieve her dream of immortality.
However, at a crucial point, Bean stabs Dagmar with a stalagmite and kills her, who, although revived by Satan in Hell, is doomed to suffer there for eternity. With the help of a wish from Luci, Mora is revived, and Bean offers the Dreamland to the elves and runs away with Mora to leave a pleasant life free of responsibilities.
Disenchantment Season 5 Ending Explained
Although the ending was beautiful, with everyone reaching a happy spot, there are a few questions that many viewers may not have answers to. For starters, Mora comes back from death even after she is killed.
Apparently, after Dagmar kills Luci in the fifth season, he unexpectedly arrives in heaven, even though he is a demon. There, he earns a wish for himself but uses it to revive Mora and eventually becomes an Angel for being selfless.
Another dilemma many fans had was why Bean had given up on the throne rather than ruling the Dreamland. The answer is quite apparentāBean has never wanted to be a queen since the first season.
She only used the status when their friends needed to be saved, but otherwise, she always ran away from responsibilities and wanted to be free from everything. So, it makes sense for her to give up on the throne and live a happy life with Mora.
Is Disenchantment Season 5 the End of the Show?
Initially, the creators, Josh Weinstein and Groening, envisioned wrapping up the series in six parts where they mentioned that season 3 is in the middle, and things will take a drastic turn after that.
So, fans may have hopes that there will be another season in the series, but the fifth season will be the last season of the show, as officially announced by the creators and Netflix.
On September 1st, Netflix’s official X account posted, “IT. ALL. ENDETH. The epic adventure from the creator of The Simpsons comes to a close in the final season of Disenchantment.” – meaning season five is indeed the last season fans will ever get from the series.
At least it offered a fantastic conclusion before parting away, and it will stay forever in the hearts of its fans. So, did you love the ending of the series? What could have been better in the final season?
