Who is Asta’s daddy? That’s the one eternal question that has reigned over the Black Clover fandom. With the final manga arc currently going on, the biggest question regarding the story has reared its head again.
Asta began his story as a peasant boy abandoned at the Hage Church. He wanted to be the Wizard King, but since he was born without any magical powers, that goal was neigh impossible.
But he didn’t give up, and thanks to dedicated physical training, he overcame his shortcomings to use anti-magic swords. Over the course of the story, it was disclosed that Licita is his mother. She is a human capable of constantly and rather uncontrollably draining magic as well as the life force from those around her. As a result, she was ostracized and forced to the village outskirts.
It was assumed that she didn’t have contact with anyone else apart from Liebe, who had anti-magic rather than magic. As such, due to the way Licita’s body functioned, it was quite a conundrum to imagine who could have fathered Asta. The only man who could have withstood Licita’s powers is one with abundant magic as well as life force.
The one character who fits the bill of possibly being Asta’s father is Julius Novachrono, the Wizard King. He has immense and seemingly undrainable magical energy reserves. Additionally, his life force is greater too. So this could act as the perfect counterbalance to Licita’s condition of uncontrollably draining the life force and magic of people around her. So they could have conceived Asta together.
Is Asta’s Father the Wizard King, Julius Novachrono?
A popular theory has been doing the rounds of the internet where the Wizard King, Julius Novachrono, is Asta’a father. The theory states that when Asta got the second sword, it was Julius who asked if he was capable of holding it. He himself was unfazed by the sword draining his magic thanks to his vast magical reserve.
Additionally, Novachrono seems to know a lot about Asta’s unique situation, even though it’s never elaborated on how he came to know about it. As such, it’s possible that he is indeed the father. However, it’s also possible that he could have become interested in the boy while being undercover.
But the speculation surrounding Julius comes back to his powers- his life force is quite possibly twice that of anyone else’s, and his magical reserves are vast. So if there’s anyone who could have counterbalanced Licita’s magic and life-force-draining abilities, it’s him. However, there are some potholes in this theory as well.
Did the Wizard King Create Asta to Battle Lucius Zogratis?
Julius Novachrono is the eldest and final Zogratis sibling. In the Black Clover manga, Lucius Zogratis was born with another soul- Julius Novachrono, as well as Soul Magic. After becoming the Time Devil’s host, they head to the Clover Kingdom. Lucius allows Julius to control their body. Then, Julius integrates himself with a powerful family, attains the position of a Magic Knight Captain, as well as becomes the Wizard King.
All this happens when he has no idea that he is using the magic of a devil and not his own. The fan theory states that Julius created or made Asta to use as a powerful weapon against Lucius. However, this idea seems a little far-fetched because it is Lucius who seems to be the dominant soul. Also, Julius wasn’t able to access the Soul magic since Lucius hid that ability and gave him only Time magic.
So while Julius being Asta’s father is a theory that posits some interesting points, it’s unlikely that he is Julius’ secret weapon to use against his brother. Another theory suggests that it is Astaroth who is Asta’s father. After all, not every deal made with the devil is consensual, so he could have taken control for some time to create Asta as a weapon.
It will be interesting to see if the theory about Julius being the father is true or not. As for the part about Asta being a weapon to tackle Lucius, readers will probably know the results soon since a fight between the two is coming soon.
So what are your thoughts about this theory?
Is the Wizard King really Asta’s father, or is there another character who could have withstood Licita’s abilities? Could Astaroth be the father instead?
