How long have you had to wait for a second season of your favorite show, anime, manga, film, etc? 2 years? 5 years? 7 years? Well, Yosuga No Sora fans will beat you in that department.
It has been a decade and more since the first season of Yosuga No Sora premiered. As expected, viewers who loved it are still waiting for updates and are hoping for a second season.
But is it coming soon?
Yosuga No Sora anime has 12 episodes airing from October to December 2010. It is available on Crunchyroll. It follows orphaned twins Haruka and Sora Kasugano, who move to a rural town, encounter people from their past and experience a forbidden love. As of November 27, 2023, season 2 hasn’t been announced and probably isn’t happening.
Yosuga No Sora Plot
Yosuga no Sora began as a Japanese adult romance drama visual novel developed by Sphere. It was initially released on December 5, 2008, on Windows only, but it gradually gained popularity for its character-driven storyline and narrative.
The visual novel was interactive, so players could make choices that influenced the story’s outcome. It was later adapted into a manga and then an anime TV show.
The first and only season of the anime has 12 episodes airing from October to December 2010. Yosuga no Sora follows Haruka Kasugano and Sora, his twin sister. They lose their parents in a fatal accident and are orphaned.
As a result of this tragic accident and refusing to live with their relatives, they decide to move out from the city to a rural town. After all, they once spent summers there with their late grandfather there.
Initially, everything seems to go well in the peaceful town that offers solace to the twins. But things change as Haruka refuses to move forward from the tragic death of his parents and begins remembering long-buried incidents, people, and a forbidden love from his youth.
The overarching plot caters to 4 stories with one main female character each. There’s rich girl Kazuha Migiwa, depressed Noa Yorihime, petite Sora Kasugano, and polite Akira Amatsume.
Yosuga no Sora has been praised for exploring complex themes like love, loss, and the barriers in romantic relationships.
Not to mention that it does a great job of highlighting how personal growth is difficult after suffering from a life-altering loss.
However, it was criticized immensely as well. After all, it falls in the erotica genre and has themes of incest and ecchi. So this anime is definitely for the adult audience.
Yosuga No Sora Season 2 Release Date
As of November 2023, Yosuga No Sora has yet to be officially renewed for a second season. Since it has been 13 years since the first season aired, chances of it getting a follow-up are slim to none.
The adult themes of the source novel and anime are probably one of the reasons why there’s hesitation towards another season.
Mature anime doesn’t make as much as child or PG-13-rated ones because distribution and streaming services are generally hesitant to acquire them.
Also, it only got a 6.04 rating on MyAnimeList, so many viewers weren’t too fond of it. That’s not all. It doesn’t look like there’s enough material for another season. After all, the main storyline was adapted entirely in the first season.
Since it’s based on an interactive visual novel, some alternate storylines and endings can be explored in a sequel. But it’s not necessary.
While a season 2 might not be coming sometime soon, a fan/ sequel disk called Haruka no Sora was released on October 24, 2009. It offered expanded scenarios for multiple characters present in the original game.
Yosuga No Sora Season 2 Trailer
Since there’s no official confirmation of a season 2 of Yosuga No Sora, there’s no trailer either. It also doesn’t look like any trailer will be released anytime soon.
