One of the hardest things about watching TV shows is coming to terms with your favorite show’s ending. With the fourth season of Never Have I Ever being released recently on Netflix, fans of the show have been speculating if there could be one more season.
The show follows the journey of Devi (Maitreyi Ramakrishnan), an Indian-American high schooler, as she grapples with the loss of her father and confronts the challenges of teenage life and high school. After 3 eventful seasons, the fourth and final installment will see Devi graduating high school and heading off to the college of her dreams.

Is Never Have I Ever Season 5 in the Cards?
The top-rated diverse comedy co-created by Mindy Kaling and Lang Fisher is officially wrapping up with Season 4. In an interview with ET Online, Kaling talked about how Never Have I Ever was always written as a “high school show,” so it did not make sense to continue the show following Devi heading off to college.
She further said-
“Four seasons for a high school show felt like it made sense.”
She also talked about how it looks bizarre if the characters continue to be in school for many years, especially with actors getting older. One such case is actor Darren Barnet, a 32-year-old playing the character of 17-year-old Paxton on the show, which is not ideal.
This reasoning makes sense because it’s better to end high- school centric shows while there is still a strong narrative element and actors are young.
Even in the case of an additional season or spin-off, we will likely see a completely different setting with older, revamped characters and newer ones.
However, it was not a shocker to most fans because Mindy Kaling had mentioned that the fourth season would be final all the way back in May of 2022. So, most show followers have had time to prepare for the end mentally.
During the interview, Kaling also mentioned how Netflix gave the show plenty of freedom to explore 15-year-old Devi’s character. Everything from her challenges at home to the intense high-school drama the show depicts beautifully. This is why ending the show at the correct time seemed sensible without stretching it too much.
Is There Any Possibility for a Spin-Off of Is Never Have I Ever?
Season 4 of the series is eventful, to say the least, as it attempts to tie off all loose ends of the show. Some highlights of this last installment include a vandalized car, a problematic visit to Princeton, and a limo car crash, to name a few incidents, without spoiling too much of the show.
Fans will be curious to know who Devi will end up with, Ben Gross (Jaren Lewison), longtime crush Paxton (Darren Barnet), or newcomer Ethan (Micheal Cimino).
As for a spin-off, we may get to see one with Devi’s friends Fabiola (Lee Rodriguez), Eleanor (Ramona Young), and Aneesa (Megan Suri) embarking on their post-high-school life.
But there are no reports on a potential spin-off from the co-creators of the show or Netflix. Chances for the same are also less because it is tricky to continue the narrative in a different setting and maintain the show’s success.
This is not to say that it’s impossible. Optimistically speaking, many older shows are constantly being rebooted, and Never Have I Ever could also see something like that in the future.
If you haven’t, Make sure to check out the final fourth season of Never Have I Ever officially out on Netflix if you haven’t already.
Would you want to see a spin-off of the series? Should it focus on Devi or her friends? Is a spin-off stretching it?
