A few days back, after realizing her memoir “Worthy,” Jada revealed the shocking truth about her life. She and her husband, Will Smith, are legally married; however, they have been living separately since 2016.
In an exclusive interview with Today on 14 October 2023, she quoted,
“By the time we got to 2016, we were just exhausted from trying. I think we were both kind of just still stuck in our fantasy of what we thought the other person should be.”
Upon asking about the divorce, she further revealed,
“I made a promise that there will never be a reason for us to get a divorce. We will work through … whatever,” Jada said. “I just haven’t been able to break that promise.”
After Jada’s memoir’s release, Will took his sweet time to think about their relationship. He mentioned how he realized that it was like a wake-up call for him. In an interview with the New York Times, he shared,
“When you’ve been with someone for more than half of your life, a sort of emotional blindness sets in, and you can all too easily lose your sensitivity to their hidden nuances and subtle beauties.”
Furthermore, he penned a handwritten letter for his ex-wife, sharing his thoughts on her memoir, ‘Worthy.’ The letter was read by Jay Shetty on his podcast, “On Purpose,” when Jada was a guest on October 16, 2023.
Will wrote,
“I applaud and honor you. If I had read this book 30 years ago, I definitely would have hugged you more. I’ll start now. Welcome to the Authors Club. I love you endlessly. Now go get some Merlot and take a rest.”
Jada responded while laughing that this was a reason she couldn’t give that “joker” a divorce. Later on, she shared that the memoir is a gripping odyssey through her personal life, revealing every twist and turn. It also includes her role as the wife of the superstar, Will Smith, and her journey into motherhood and separation.
