Netflix’s latest One Piece live-action series has fans divided between whether to call it a great series or a misrepresentation of the original anime/manga. Godoy’s enthusiastic performance was as close to Luffy’s cheerful and brainless personality as possible, and the rest of the cast also suited their respective roles.
It is an excellent series for beginners to get into One Piece as it covers the entire Introductory arc into eight episodes. Did it emit many parts and shorten some sequences to fit into the series?
Yes, but that could be called a necessary sacrifice, or we would be stuck with another 1000+ episode series, but this time, in the live-action version.
Will One Piece 2023 Receive a Second Season?
So far, neither the studio nor Netflix has confirmed a second season for the One Piece 2023 live-action series. The series just dropped on August 31, and there is plenty of time for another announcement, but it all depends on the series’ performance.
If the live-action performs well, we are bound to receive a second season. On the other hand, episode 8 ended with teasing a marine officer who burns the wanted image of Luffy. This sets the stage for the sequel, which seems very much possible at the moment.
So stay tuned for further updates on a sequel announcement.
One Piece Live-Action Season 2 Plot Speculation
The eight episodes of One Piece 2023 adapted the whole introduction arc, and Luffy has already formed the Straw Hat Pirates with Nami, Zoro, Sanji, and Usopp. The last arc that was adapted was the Arlong Park Arc, where Nami had to face her staunch enemy. If the series receives a second season, it will adapt the Loguetown Arc, the last arc in the East Blue Saga.
Season 2 of One Piece will definitely adapt the Arabasta Saga as well, since the Reverse Mountain Arc was already hinted at by Nami in the last few minutes of episode 8.
In the Loguetown Arc, the Straw Hat Pirates will enter the town where Gol D. Roger was executed and face a powerful marine. Next, the crew will venture into the Grand Line, but an unexpected obstacle is waiting to swallow them up at the entrance.
The next arcs that might be adapted in season 2 are the Whisky Peak Arc, Little Garden Arc, Drum Island Arc, and the Arabasta Arc. However, due to the sheer length of the Arabasta Arc, it could be pushed off to season 3 or aired in parts.
One Piece Live-Action 2023 Ending Explained: Who was Smoking Man at the End?
Netflix’s One Piece 2023 live-action was a fun ride, with Luffy recruiting a team to sail with, and the Straw Hat Pirates are ready to enter the Grand Line by the end of episode 8. However, the last scene from the series shows an ominous man who burns Luffy’s wanted poster with his cigar.
Judging from the Marine uniform, pale hair, and smoking habits, the man is bound to be the Marine vice admiral, Smoker the White Hunter. He is the commander of the G-5 Marine base and will be introduced in season 2 of the One Piece live-action.
Captain Smoker will make it his mission to capture Luffy and will be the primary antagonist for the Straw Hats in the upcoming episodes. We are excited to see who will be cast to play the handsome hunk of a captain, as he has a dashing figure in the original anime and manga.
The One Piece live-action 2023 series was released on August 31, 2023, and is available to stream exclusively on Netflix. So go ahead and complete the eight episodes, and tell us in the comments if you think the series passed the vibe check!
