And that’s when all hell broke loose. One man’s unwarranted anger was an utter nightmare for a woman. They say, get you a man who can protect you… But what if he is the danger himself?
On September 11, during the wee hours, people sound asleep in the Millennium Hilton New York Hotel suddenly woke up to a ruckus. A witness soon reported the noises in the adjacent room. By 6:30 a.m., a man was arrested on the charges of a brutal attack and strangulation on his girlfriend. He was identified as NBA player Kevin Porter Jr. And the victim was his girlfriend, Kysre Gondrezick, a WNBA player.
Who Is Kysre Gondrezick?
Kysre Gondrezick started her career at the collegiate level, playing for Michigan and West Virginia. Through her impressive stats and being considered one of the top prospects, she was drafted in the 2021 WNBA draft as the no. 4 pick.
Within a year, Kysre improved considerably, playing 19 games for the Indiana Fever in her initial season. However, the 26-year-old player was later released in 2022.
She later played occasionally as a free agent, with an average playset of 9 minutes a game. Kysre is now seen on the fashion scene as a model and invited as a guest to several prominent fashion shows.
Who Is Kevin Porter Jr.?
Porter, born in Seattle, Washington, started his basketball journey at USC. He was deemed one of the most promising players in the class, prompting his entry in the 2019 NBA draft.
He was the 30th overall pick, drafted by the Milwaukee Bucks. Then he was traded to the Cleveland Cavaliers on July 3, 2019.
Cut to three years later, Porter is riding high on the peak of his career, averaging career-highs of 19.2 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 1.4 steals, leading the Houston Rockets to wins. Porter’s stats of 5.7 assists and a milestone of 44.2% accuracy rate established him an inch closer to being a seasoned player.
Subsequently, Kevin signed a four-year contract extension of a whopping $82.5 million. But Kevin seems to have always been in trouble with the law, which only guaranteed a $15.9 million salary for the current season, which is still quite hefty.
Now, he has flushed it all down the drain by committing a felony and tarnishing his reputation forever.
Why Was Houston Rockets Kevin Porter Jr. Arrested?
Porter and Gondrezick started their week by attending the NYC Fashion Week. They were first papped at the Vogue Smart Tox NYFW Kickoff event on September 7.
The couple spent the rest of the week staying at the four-star Millennium Hilton New York Hotel at 1 UN Plaza in Midtown.
On September 11, Kysre was upset that Porter was out pretty late at night. When he returned to their room, Kysre refused to open the door and locked him out. But she soon let him in, sensing hostility in his tone. But she never expected what happened next.
Authorities were informed of the evident commotion. When they arrived, they saw a female with severe bruises on her face and neck. A spokesperson told ABC News that–
“Upon arrival, officers were informed that a 26-year-old female sustained a laceration to the right side of her face and was complaining about pain to her neck.”
“A preliminary investigation on scene determined that a known individual struck her multiple times upon her body and placed his hands around the neck.”
Kysre was immediately taken to the hospital.
The Rockets have issued a formal statement on the issue–
“We are in the process of gathering information surrounding the matter involving Kevin Porter Jr..”
“We have no further comment at this time.”
The NBA spokesman, Mike Bass, also released an official statement after Kevin’s arrest–
“The league office is in contact with the Houston Rockets and in the process of gathering more information.”
Kysre’s sister was not having any of it, as she publicly displayed her rage toward Kevin–
