From being a UFC commentator to a comedian, actor, and finally a podcaster, Joe Rogan has come a long way. People love his authentic, deep, and informative podcasts on ‘The Joe Rogan Experience.’
While he may have some controversies and backlash due to the things he and his guests talk about on the show, the podcasts mostly worked.
Rogan said in an interview with Spotify that he never does a podcast just because a person is popular.”
But in December of 2020, His YouTube channel PowerfulJRE stopped posting these podcasts. The reason?
Spotify made an exclusive deal with Joe Rogan to post his podcasts only on their platform for an estimated $200 million. But why is Joe Rogan back on YouTube again? Did the deal expire?
On February 9th, 2024, Joe Rogan and Spotify announced a new deal. Spotify will now distribute ‘The Joe Rogan Experience’ on Apple Podcasts, YouTube, and Prime. As a result, Joe Rogan will be back on YouTube again in 2024 with guests like Katt Williams, Dan Soder, and Zack Snyder.
So, what happened to the Spotify exclusive deal?
It seems like the old contract has expired, and now a new multiyear deal was signed with Spotify to distribute to other channels to serve a wider audience. While there have been rumors that this deal may now be worth as much as $250 million, a Spotify representative denied this number.
Spotify also stated that the popularity of The Joe Rogan Experience aligns with the continued growth we are seeing for podcasts overall.
They added,
“Since the podcast has been exclusive to Spotify, overall podcast consumption on the platform has increased by 232%. As a result of this exponential growth we’ve seen, this has attracted a wide array of advertisers that has fueled the 80% increase in revenue in 2023 since 2021 including a 45% increase in revenue in 2023 for the show.”
From now on, Spotify will share a guaranteed minimum fee and a cut of the advertising revenue with Joe Rogan.
After starting The Joe Rogan Experience on December 24th, 2009, Joe Rogan couldn’t have asked for a better deal while adding new episodes to his huge collection of over 2,200 podcasts.
