The onscreen Superman, Henry Cavill, blessed his fans by appearing on Netflix’s Witcher, but the actor is very picky and keeps fans waiting for a performance that will make them drool.
The Witcher was yet another masterpiece that showcased Cavill’s chiseled body and, above all, his brilliant acting skills. However, Cavill revealed last October that he would leave The Witcher in Season 3. So, Why on earth is Henry Cavill quitting The Witcher?
Henry Cavill is a Witcher fan himself. He is an avid follower of the book and gushes over many characters. This is also why he signed Witcher and meticulously played the central role in the series. However, now that the series is heading towards its fourth and fifth seasons, Henry isn’t entirely happy with his character’s direction and has thus decided to call it quits.
Full Story on Henry Cavill’s Exit
Henry Cavill is among those actors who ensure the audience gets what they have been promising. He takes a keen interest in writing and production to guarantee everything goes right. Definitely the mark of a megastar!
According to The Witcher’s producer, Lauren Hissrich, before they started season two, Henry came up with many corrections in the dialogue. The writers and producers had several creative differences, which were resolved at the time.
In a recent interview, Henry’s thoughts on this were-
“It’s important for me to have the character be three-dimensional. And it’s tricky to do, as I was saying earlier, because there’s a certain vision and there’s a certain set storyline and plot. And so, it was about me trying to find Geralt’s place within that. All of my asks and requests were along the lines of just being faithful to the source material.”
Again, in season three, the direction Geralt’s character was heading wasn’t what Henry imagined. For seasons four and five, it was finally Henry’s call on what to do with it, as the script would stay the same. Cavill put down the hammer and decided to step away from the series.
On quitting the series, Henry released a statement saying-
“My journey as Geralt Of Rivia has been filled with both monsters and adventures and alas, I will be laying down my medallion and my swords for season four.”
“In my stead, the fantastic Mr Liam Hemsworth will be taking up the mantle of the White Wolf. As with the greatest of literary characters, I pass the torch with reverence for the time spent embodying Geralt and enthusiasm to see Liam’s take on this most fascinating and nuanced of men.”
The producers call the third season “the heroic send-off” for Henry. Hissrich added-
“What is so interesting is that season three, to me, is the closest thing that we’ve done as a one-to-one adaptation of the books”
The white wolf will hit the screen once again but with a different face. The team behind The Witcher expects the audience to shower Liam with equal love.
Why Was Liam Hemsworth Casted as the Witcher?
The creative team behind the series put in a lot of effort while casting Henry Cavill, as they were fighting against Superman (not literally), the mega image that follows the actor. The idea was to cast someone who could convince the audience of his strength and charm. Cavill perfectly suited the role and bewitched the audience.
The news of his leaving the series isn’t well received by the audience. However, Liam Hemsworth, who has signed on to fill Cavill’s big shoes, might equally captivate the audience.
The casting procedure for Liam was said to be tiresome. The producers grilled the actor through audiences and whatnot. But Liam’s dedication and performance won over the casting team.
Producers claim that Liam’s performance in Hunger Games was the main factor in his getting shortlisted, but his outstanding performance in the audience rounds led to his casting.
Will Liam do justice to the part in the series? Will The Witcher’s fans accept Liam as the new hunter?
