Rickie Fowler snatched his sixth PGA TOUR title this weekend and successfully revitalized his career. All the hard work he has put in this season has finally paid off, and pro-Fowlers can’t get any happier.
Last summer Fowler fell outside the Top 150, and this Sunday, he reached an all-time high at the Rocket Mortgage Classic. Ever since he debuted with potential and a bold persona, Fowler’s career has been ridden with scrutiny.
However, Sunday’s win has silenced his critics as he has successfully won over everyone. As he holed the putt, Fowler looked as flashy as ever in his Sunday Oklahoma State orange apparel.
After Sunday’s win, questions over Rickie’s choice of orange clothing in the finale of every tournament have risen, and we are here to answer them.
Why Does Rickie Fowler Wear Orange?
There are two reasons why Rickie Fowler wears bright orange. The first reason is to honor Oklahoma State University, his alma mater. The most prominent cause, however, is to stand out among all the golfers.
Rickie has expressed his choice of color on multiple occasions. In an interview, Fowler remarked that he started wearing orange in school since not many guys wear orange. He said-
“It was a way to be my own man out there.”
The player has also shown an apparent dislike for crimson or burnt orange, as they are the colors of the rival schools. “Oh, and I’ll tell you this, I wouldn’t wear crimson or burnt orange under any circumstances.”
In the end, it’s all about Rickie’s own style and having fun while standing out amongst everyone. In the tournaments, spotting Rickie is the easiest, as you will find him wearing the brightest color on the field.
Previously Rickie used to go all-out in orange, wearing an orange t-shirt and pants. Thankfully, he has dialed it down in recent years, switching to just an orange t-shirt and shoes combo or orange pants.
You can find Ricki’s Sunday orange outfit in this video below, where he is being compared to others in orange:
The only time Fowler considered not wearing orange was during the 2019 Open Championship at the Royal Portrush Golf Club in Northern Ireland. The color is associated with a unionist group, Orange Order, and it would have been a controversial choice.
Rickie’s orange outfit even led to a hilarious ad for This is SportsCenter, claiming that his choice of apparel color was due to colorblindness. Let me clear the air by saying that Rickie Fowler is not colorblind in real life.
Overall, Rckie snatched a major win this Sunday in style, and we hope there’s more in store from the champ.
