In the realm of Final Fantasy VII, Sephiroth, once hailed as a hero, spiraled into madness, leaving players intrigued by the catalysts of his transformation.

Delving into his complex psyche reveals a journey fraught with revelations and inner turmoil. So, it’s finally time to understand what made him go insane in Final Fantasy 7.

Sephiroth’s descent into madness in Final Fantasy VII was sparked by the revelation that he was not human but rather the son of Jenova, an extraterrestrial being whose cells were used in an experiment to create him. This shattered his perception of self, leading him to question his loyalty to Shinra and adopt Jenova’s legacy, fueling his path toward destruction and vengeance.

Sephiroth’s descent into madness in Final Fantasy VII stemmed from a series of pivotal events that shattered his identity and sanity.

He learned the truth about his birth, that he was the son of Jenova, an ancient extraterrestrial being whose cells were used to create him as a superhuman warrior.

This realization shattered his perception of self and drove him toward Jenova’s legacy. Also, it wasn’t a sudden descent into madness.

Learning he was a product of experimentation, not a human, led him to question his allegiance to Shinra. It was only later that he ultimately embraced Jenova’s life, setting the stage for his transformation into Final Fantasy VII’s iconic antagonist.

So, he developed a messiah complex and proclaimed himself “the chosen one” destined to lead the planet, masking his inner turmoil with a calm demeanor.

Sephiroth became devoted to Jenova, considering her his true mother, and carried out her will, shifting his goal from heroism to destruction.

The infamous Nibelheim Incident marked a turning point, as he burned down the town and stole Jenova’s head, leading to a fateful battle with Cloud, the protagonist.

Moreover, Sephiroth’s vulnerability to manipulation played a pivotal role in his descent. Primed by his own beliefs and predisposed to radicalization, he fell victim to Jenova’s influence, paving the way for his transformation into a formidable antagonist.

Sephiroth’s journey from celebrated hero to deranged villain serves as a cautionary tale, highlighting the peril of unchecked manipulation and the consequences of shattered identity.

As players revisit his tragic saga, they are reminded of the delicate balance between perception and reality in the tumultuous world of Final Fantasy.

How does Sephiroth’s descent resonate with real-world themes of identity and manipulation? What role does misinformation play in shaping Sephiroth’s perception of self and others?
