How much say should you have in someone’s life? None… It’s a rhetorical question. Then why do we feel the need to encroach on celebrities’ lives?
Even if their profession involves being in the public eye, they are not surrendering their rights of privacy. Taking the parasocial relationship to the toxic level can gravely affect the celebrity’s mental health.
Just last month, we reported that Joshu Hong from the popular Korean band is embroiled in dating rumors with model Cho Mi Young. These speculations were derived from unvalidated circumstantial evidence and had no definitive proof to it. Neither party involved nor their respective agencies have posted any official statement about the rumors.
The rumors fizzled out over the weeks, but some fans couldn’t let go. Some netizens kept poking at the topic, even though there was nothing to substantiate it. And then came a special breed who demanded that Joshua be removed from the group because he “betrayed” his fans.
They held protests outside Pledis Entertainment. In the lamest way possible, some fans pulled out their own money, contributed to huge trucks, and displayed messages on each of them–
- Joshua leave.
- We are against dating/ Lipsyncing/PDA.
- A celebrity who tramples on the hard work of their members and the sincerity of their fans has no future!
All this unwanted publicity might have taken a toll on Joshua. During Joshua’s ending ment at Seventeen’s Japan tour, Joshua shed tears while delivering his message to Carats. Some speculated that all the irrelevant criticism had taken a toll on his emotions, which he finally expressed on the September 6 ‘FOLLOW’ tour at the Tokyo Dome in Japan.
Why Did Joshua Cry During SEVENTEEN’s ‘Follow’ Tour in Japan?
Performing at the Tokyo Dome is one of the most coveted milestones for artists. Very few acts have been invited to perform at this stadium, and artists consider it an honor.
Seventeen is one of the rare groups who came from a small company and made their mark on their own. The self-produced group quickly won hearts for their versatility and genuineity. Today, they are considered one of the most influential bands in the world and have an immense Korean and global following.
There’s no denying that the group has seen many struggles in their career. Recently, Seventeen’s leader, S. Coups, suffered a knee injury and was compelled to go on a hiatus. But fans rejoiced when he resumed his schedule at the concert.
S.Coups’s closing ment meant a lot to the fans who were worried about his well-being and missed him on the previous shows.
After each member addressed the fans, it was Joshua’s turn to express his views. In the middle of his speech, the vulnerable situation got the best of him, and he shed tears. Carats quickly cheered and encouraged him. But they were aware that Joshua was going through a lot with the unwarranted dating rumors and the criticisms that followed.
What is your take on this? Do you think the fans took it too far? Should an idol’s dating life matter in their career?
