Jey Uso and Jummi Uso have been staples at the WWE for a long time. The Samoan wrestlers, whose real names are Joshua Samuel Fatu and Jonathan Solofa Fatu, have performed for SmackDown’s entertaining audiences for a long time.
When fans tuned in to watch the latest WWE SmackDown match, they were greeted by an announcement from Jey Uso that left them with raised eyebrows and crumpled forehead lines. He announced that he was leaving WWE.
But they weren’t sure whether the announcement was real or part of the match. So what is the truth?
Jey Uso announced at the August 11 episode of WWE SmackDown that he was out of the WWE entirely. Fans speculate it’s just a part of The Bloodline storyline, and he will return soon. Others think it was an impulsive decision after his brother Jimmy Uso betrayed him in the match. However, some fans believe Jey’s contract will expire this month, and he wants to join Tony Khan’s group next.
Why Did Jey Uso Leave WWE?
On WWE SmackDown’s August 11 episode, Jey Uso announced he was done. The professional wrestler officially quit after the match where he challenged Roman Reigns for the Tribal Chief and Undisputed WWE Universal Championship status at the SummerSlam.
He performed well, but his brother Jimmy Iso betrayed him, claiming he prevented him from becoming the SummerSlam Undisputed WWE Universal Champion because he didn’t want to see Jey become a second Roman Reigns.
After kicking Roman, Jimmy, and Solo Sikoa out, Jey said he was out of the entire company- SmackDown, The Bloodline, the whole of it. The decision was so sudden that it took everyone aback. Later, rumors circulated that Jey had quit because his contract was expiring this month.
Also, apparently, his non-compete clause would end just five days before the All In AEW event. He may now be a part of Tony Khan’s group. But nothing as such has been confirmed. However, some fans have other theories.
They think it might be an impulsive decision after Jimmy betrayed him in front of everybody. Others are of the view that it was a way to bring Rikishi into The Bloodline story. After all, he has dropped plenty of messages in support of Jey since the fight with Roman Reigns began.
There have been no legitimate headlines or reports from reputed trades about WWE star Jey Uso quitting the company. So it’s all probably a part of the SmackDown storyline.
It can’t be denied that having someone like 37-year-old Jey Uso, who drives the main storyline forward in more ways than one, stop appearing suddenly on WWE will be a big downer for the viewers. But maybe the big man is just taking a much-deserved vacation, albeit his departure is being showcased dramatically.
Casting doubt on the vacation theory and the idea that it’s all part of the SmackDown storyline are the facts that he isn’t being advertised for any August TV dates. Also, he has been removed from the list of stars announced for the Payback PPV/PLE next month.
It’s not looking good for Jey Uso now. Also, WWE has moved his name to the alumni section. New official information about his WWE status is awaited.
WWE SmackDown airs live on Fox each Monday night. It can be watched via cable providers or Fubo TV. Hulu streams episodes the next day, and Peacock does so 30 days later.
