The revival of “iCarly,” the beloved Nickelodeon sitcom has captured the hearts of every viewer, once again. It brought back all the excitement and nostalgia to fans worldwide.
Regardless, to the dismay of many, the news of its cancellation left fans puzzled and curious about the logic behind this decision. Hence, in this exploration, we will dive deeper to know the reality and reason behind the untimely end of the “iCarly” reboot.
After the shocking tweet from “iCarly” Harper, aka, Laci, the streamer team has finally acknowledged the cancellation news. On October 4, 2023, a spokesperson for the streamer reported to Entertainment Weekly, “iCarly will not be returning for a fourth season on Paramount+.” However, the team didn’t specify any reason behind the sudden decision but many believe this is due to the increased compensation to the creators and team in the fourth season.
What Is iCarly Famous For?
This year a lot of show’s reboots got canceled or have no hope to be aired anytime soon. For example, “Season 10 of Suits,” “Season 5 of Never Have I Ever” and many more. Well, iCarly is yet another sitcom in the same category with no further reboot, (even if it is left on a BIG cliffhanger!)
“iCarly” is a popular American television sitcom that originally aired on Nickelodeon from 2007 to 2012. The series was created by Dan Schneider and it quickly became a cultural phenomenon. Why? Well, not only does it captivate audiences of all ages with its humor but also has relatable characters with innovative premise.
The sitcom follows the life of a teenager, Carly Shay, portrayed by Miranda Cosgrove, and her two best friends, Sam Puckett (played by Jennette McCurdy) and Freddie Benson (played by Nathan Kress). The trio starts a web show, named, “iCarly,” which further shows the drama revolving around them getting famous overnight through the webshow.
With massive demands and high ratings, the 2021 revival sitcom premiered from June 2021 to June 2023, with the same name, “iCarly.” The series showed the story after the span of 9 years in Carly’s life. A few new faces joined the scenario including her roommate, Harper (Laci Mosley), Spencer (Jerry Trainor), and Millicent (Jaidyn Triplett).
Why Did iCarly Reboot Get Canceled?
From season 1 to season 3, the drama served nothing but nostalgia and an amazing storyline. After the end of season 3, netizens were set on the screen in anticipation of the next season, however, the fourth season got canceled and the sitcom was wrapped up with 3 seasons.
Rumors of cancellation started when Laci Mosley tweeted on X (formerly known as Twitter) on 4th October 2023. She announced the news of the show’s cancellation. She said,

Following the chaos, a spokesperson for the streamer confirmed the news of cancelation while speaking to Entertainment Weekly, saying,
“iCarly will not be returning for a fourth season on Paramount+. The series had a great three-season run and delivered on what fans really wanted to see with Carly and Freddie finally getting together. We want to thank the entire cast, the writers, directors and producers along with the whole crew for their dedication, creativity, and talent.”
Although, there is no official statement stating the reason behind canceling the show, provided by the team. Fans are not only sad but confused due to the sudden news.
The viewers of the show started speculating different angles on why it had happened. Netizens over the internet pointed out that the production house is not willing to increase the pay of actors and writers after season 3.
Few also mentioned the impact of SAG and WAG strikes, since the SAG-AFTRA strike is still in full swing just until recently. But, nothing can be concluded until it is confirmed by the team itself.
