WWE has given birth to many superstars who have become childhood heroes for many kids, including John Cena, Roman Reigns, and the ever-dangerous Edge, also known as Adam Copela, in real life.
Edge had one of the most influential careers in WWE, with his record-breaking history of winning 31 championships and holding the World Heavyweight Championship seven times in succession.
The 49-year-old Edge, aka Adam Copela, is apparently moving to AEW (All Elite Wrestling) from WWE starting this October. Edge posted on his Instagram account that he is moving to AEW simply because he’s outgrown WWE, and there’s nothing more to do there. Meanwhile, the reports state that he couldn’t renew his contract with WWE, and AEW snatched the opportunity to bring him to their platform.
Is Adam Copela (Edge) Leaving WWE?
Following his 25 years of professional wrestling in WWE, Edge had a spectacular match against Sheamus on August 18 in SmackDown. Even though Sheamus persisted for the first couple of Spears, he took him down with the third one.
However, fans were devastated to learn that Edge will be leaving WWE to join AEW starting this October. Although it was a befitting farewell for his spectacular career, fans are still unwilling to process it.
He will continue his wrestling endeavors in AEW from October 10th as he faces Luchasaurus in singles. Hopefully, he will have another memorable career in the new medium.
Why Is Edge Leaving WWE and Joining AEW?
Although a specific reason is unknown for the time being, Adam Copela has posted on his Instagram account revealing why he is switching to AEW after all these years. He stated in his post,
“As some of you may now know, I’m no longer with WWE. My new home is AEW. I love WWE and appreciate everything the company did for me. I always have, always will. They put me on the map, gave me amazing opportunities, and through hard work on both ends, I’ve been supplied with a wonderful life. Hell, WWE helped me meet the woman I’d start my family with.”
“Sometimes relationships just grow apart, and I feel the WWE and I have just outgrown each other. This ride isn’t over just yet. Just try to have fun, like it should be. Because trust me, I’ll be having fun every time I’m out there in an AEW ring.”
Although it looks like there is no apparent reason for his departure, he may have had some misunderstandings during the contract, especially given he’s getting older.
Even in 2011, Edge was forced to retire due to injuries, and he made his comeback in 2020 during the epic Royal Rumble. His return was not smooth, though, as it reignited many feuds as well as set the stage for new ones.
Furthermore, WWE reportedly rejected Edge’s offer to retain him, during which Tony Khan offered him a good paycheck to reel him into the AEW. One could also assume Edge intends to reunite with his long-lost tag teammate, Christian.
Seeing as how his fight with Luchasaurus will only be a start, Edge may reunite with Christian to either form a tag team once more or compete with each other as rivals.
If you’re interested in learning more about Edge’s career in the AEW ring, he will speak for the first time this October 4th on AEW Dynamite at 8 PM ET.
So, do you believe Edge is leaving WWE because of his long-lasting retirement? Or is it related to the money aspect and his old age?
