The popularity of celebrities, among others, is measured by their social media profiles. More followers equal more popularity for the stars. Many entertainers have amassed millions of followers on Instagram and Twitter through their talent.

However, certain instances or acts by celebrities can provoke fans, leading them to unfollow their favorite stars. While many stars are not happy to lose their followers, singer Doja Cat is looking at the bright side after losing fans on her Instagram account.

Doja Cat lost more than 300k followers on her Instagram account as she insulted some of her fans online. In July, when one of her fans asked Doja Cat to say that she loved them, the singer offended her fans by saying that she does not love them as she does not know them at all.

The 27-year-old singer and rapper Doja Cat’s tiff with the fans started when she was spotted in a PDA-filled outing with her rumored boyfriend, J Cyrus. Fans called her out for her relationship with the Twitch influencer and comedian, who was accused of emotionally abusing his Twitch community.

But the rapper blasted her fans for interfering in her personal life, saying, “I DON’T GIVE A F— WHAT YOU THINK ABOUT MY PERSONAL LIFE I NEVER HAVE AND NEVER WILL GIVE A F— WHAT YOU THINK ABOUT ME OR MY PERSONAL LIFE GOODBYE AND GOOD RIDDANCE MISERABLE HOES HAHA!”

In July, one of her fans asked Doja Cat to share how much she appreciated her fans and how much their love meant to her. But instead of a flattering answer, she went straight for the kill. She said, “I don’t though cuz I don’t even know yall.”

She even ridiculed her fan base, “Kittenz,” on Threads saying,  “If you call yourself a ‘kitten’ or fucking ‘kittenz’ that means you need to get off your phone and get a job and help your parents with the house.”

The banter did not stop there. Doja Cat went a step further and called some of her fans “creepy.” Although the singer has since deactivated her Threads account, the straightforwardness did not go down well with her ardent fans, who immediately unfollowed the singer.

How Many Instagram Followers Doja Cat Lose

She nearly lost over 800,000 followers on her social media platform. And despite this, Doja Cat has no remorse. She was, in fact, relieved over her dwindling follower count.

On August 16, addressed the drama on her Instagram Story, Doja Cat said, “Seeing all these people unfollow me makes me feel like I’ve defeated a large beast that’s been holding me down for so long and it feels like I can reconnect with the people who really matter and love me for who I am and not for who I was… I feel free.”

But despite losing countless fans on social media, the singer still holds more than 25 million followers on Instagram and 5.6 million on Twitter.

However, she recently set the record straight about her outlook when her fans expect her to behave in a certain way. She opened up in an interview with Harper’s Bazaar, published August 16, and said, “My theory is that if someone has never met me in real life, then, subconsciously, I’m not real to them. So when people become engaged with someone they don’t even know on the internet, they kind of take ownership over that person. They think that person belongs to them in some sense.”

Not meeting fans’ expectations can be tough on stars, but intruding in their personal space is definitely not accepted by stars. So, what do you think?

Were the fans right, or Doja Cat reacted rightly by standing up for herself?
