Hannan Montana was a legendary Disney channel series that made us all daydream about having a secret identity as a famous celebrity.
With a stellar run of five years, the show resonated with teenagers all over the world as the story navigates through the dichotomy of living separate lives. But more than anything, young girls felt validated by the healthy father-daughter relationship portrayed on the show. And the entire credit goes to the innate chemistry between Miley and Billy Ray Cyrus, the real-life father-daughter.
With the banter, emotional moments, sharing the stage, and performing together, it felt as though the duo were playing themselves. This made the show more personal, serving one of the most heartwarming finales in Disney’s history.
Amidst the beautiful moments, the camera couldn’t capture the snowballing effect of a deteriorating relationship. Years later, Miley revealed in an interview that the show took a toll on their family dynamics. The cracks widened as Miley and Billy Ray were not on talking terms after the show ended.
Miley and Billy Ray Cyrus’s relationship was on a downward spiral following the announcement of Billy Ray and Tish Cyrus’s divorce. Billy Ray (61) was dating Australian singer Johanna Hodges, who is reportedly 34 years old, right after the split from 30 years of marriage. This did not sit well with Miley Cyrus, who is closer to Hodges’s age. Miley unfollowed Billy Ray Cyrus on Instagram after he announced his engagement with his much younger girlfriend. Meanwhile, Billy Ray followed Miley’s ex, Liam Hemsworth, on Instagram, knowing how ugly their divorce was. This has caused an evident feud between the once-beloved father-daughter duo.
Why Is the Cyrus Family Feuding?
The Cyrus family feud was evident during Tish Cyrus’s wedding with her new boyfriend, Dominic Purcell. After three on-and-off splits from Billy Ray, Tish finally pulled the plug on the relationship, starting a new chapter of her life with the Prison Break actor Purcell.
However, two of her children, Noah and Braison Cyrus, ditched her wedding to spend quality time at Walmart. Some netizens pointed out that Noah also shaded her mother by wearing Billy Ray Cyrus merchandise.
Meanwhile, Miley rose to the occasion as her mother’s maid of honor. But there’s no denying that the kids are choosing sides.
What Did Miley’s Dad Do?
The rumor mills were spinning when Billy Ray was spotted with Johanna Hodges, who goes by her stage name Firerose. Miley is 30 years old, while Billy’s girlfriend is only four years older than her. This icky relationship was the first speck of rift between father and daughter.
However, the Cyrus iceberg seems to have a deep secret that not many know. The Sun reported that Firerose and Billy actually met a decade ago when she auditioned for a role in the Hanna Montana series.

Why Don’t Miley Cyrus and Her Dad Talk Anymore?
After Billy Ray announced his engagement with Firerose just four months after his Tish Cyrus filed for divorce in April 2022, Miley Cyrus showed her loyalty to Tish by unfollowing Billy Ray on Instagram.
But in a spiteful move, Billy Ray followed Miley’s ex Liam Hemsworth on Instagram. For the unversed, Miley was in a toxic marriage with her ex-husband, whom she suspected of infidelity. She even dedicated an entire song, “Flowers”(which is, btw a total bop), narrating her rocky marriage.
Miley composed another song, “Used to Be Young,” where the lyrics reflect her wild past as a young pop icon. Per some rumors, she called Billy Ray Cyrus to make an appearance in her music video, but he never replied.
This proved their relationship had reached a new low, albeit not irreparable. Miley still mentions her dad in interviews. There is a hope that the two might reunite after all.
Meanwhile, Miley kept thriving as the album went on to break several records and the most streamed song of 2023.
