Getting released from prison after serving a shortened term is a feeling ordinary people can’t relate to. But hotshot rising rapper Ralo can.
After being involved with drug charges and spending time in jail, the Atlanta-based rapper is back on the streets as a free man with a new single.
But before you ask, let us tell you who he is and why he was imprisoned.
Ralo, aka Terrell Davis, is a 28-year-old rapper. He was arrested in April 2018 for carrying $1 million worth of marijuana in his private plane at Atlanta’s Dekalb-Peachtree Airport. In June 2022, Ralo was sentenced to 8 years. On November 8, 2023, he was released from prison due to concessions.
Who Is Ralo?
Ralo, real name Terrell Davis, was born in 1995 in Atlanta. His early life was spent in an impoverished Atlanta neighborhood where he struggled to support his family financially.
Initially, he wanted to be an electrician, but later, he became attracted to music. The song that put him on the map was “Can’t Lie” with Future, an Atlanta-based rapper.
He collaborated with hotshot rappers like Young Thug, 21 Savage, Rich Homie Quan, YFN Lucci, Gucci Mane, etc. Ralo also released mixtapes of Diary of the Streets and Famerican Gangster after the success of his single.
His Diary of the Streets mixtape series’ third volume topped Billboard’s Heatseekers Albums chart. But along with fame came criminal charges as well.
Why Was Ralo In Prison?
In 2018, Federal agents found that Ralo was the leader of Famerica, a criminal street gang that was smuggling $2 million worth of marijuana from California to Georgia. They made cross-country deliveries using chartered flights.
He was arrested in April 2018 after authorities found $1 million worth of marijuana in his private plane at Atlanta’s Dekalb-Peachtree Airport.
In May 2018, he pleaded not guilty, and in February 2019, he turned down a 5-year plea deal. In June 2022, he was sentenced to jail for eight years.
Ralo pleaded guilty to 6 counts, including felony possession of a dangerous firearm, money laundering, and the conspiracy to possess and distribute a kilo of marijuana at least.
The judge credited him with four years of prison time served. He was also credited with one and a half years for good behavior. There were also other concessions, meaning he could be free in 2023.
An Instagram post on his account explained how a 2023 release was possible:
“He was recommended a 1-year ankle monitor after the halfway house approved his address, which will bring him home to us late next year. But the goal is for him to complete his GED or RDAP Drug program so we can get another year off his sentence. That will bring him home to us in less than a year.”
He served his time in DeKalb County Jail. While in jail, he released multiple projects like Free Ralo (2019) and Political Prisoner (2021). After his sentence, Ralo will be under five years of supervised release.
Has Ralo Been Released From Prison?
On November 8, 2023, Ralo walked free from federal prison after being imprisoned for almost six years for drug charges. He is now dropping a track, fittingly called “First Day Out.”
In the videos posted of his release, the rapper can be seen dropping his prison shoes and putting on designer sneakers. He also embraced his family and friends outside of the jail.
What are your thoughts about Ralo getting released from prison? Is it too soon, even though he will be under supervision for five years? Or was it the right call by the judge?
