Among all the extraordinary characters in the picture, Michael Gambon had left his taste in his portrayal of Albus Dumbledore.

On 28 September 2023, the team of the Harry Potter film shared a tweet on X (formerly known as Twitter) reporting about the demise of Michael Gambon. According to confirmed reports, Michael Gambon, the actor who portrayed Albus Dumbledore in the Harry Potter franchise, died at the age of 82 following a “bout of pneumonia” in Witham, Essex, England.

Sir Michael John Gambon was born on 19 October 1940 in Dublin, Ireland. He was an  Irish-British actor, a prominent figure in the world of acting, known for his versatility and compelling performances.

Michael Gambon began his acting career through theatres at the Royal National Theatre along with Laurence Olivier. He performed for over six decades while winning several awards, including “Olivier Awards, Screen Actors Guild Awards, and BAFTA Awards”. 

One of the major recognition Gambon received was in 1998 when Queen Elizabeth II, knighted Michael for his contributions to the drama industry. Gambon also acted in multiple plays by William Shakespeare, for example, Othello, Hamlet, Macbeth, and Coriolanus. Further, he was nominated for thirteen ‘Olivier Awards’. 

In the year of 1965, Gambon started his career in movies with ‘Othello’. Following the film, he then appeared in prominent movies such as ‘The Cook, the Thief, His Wife & Her Lover in 1989’; ‘The Wings of the Dove in 1997’; ‘The Insider in 1999’; ‘Gosford Park in 2001’; ‘Amazing Grace in 2006’; ‘The King’s Speech in 2010’; ‘Quartet in 2012’; ‘Victoria & Abdul in 2017’ and more.

Among Micheal’s amazing roles, his role as “Albus Dumbledore” in the Harry Potter movies is the most memorable. He took over the role of Richard Harris after his passing in 2002. Hence, his feature period started from 2004 to 2011. His performance as the kind, old professor made him widely recognized and loved by the Hogwarts enthusiasts.

Throughout his career, he received four BAFTA Awards for his work in ‘The Singing Detective’ in 1986, ‘Wives and Daughters’ in 1999, ‘Longitude’ in 2000, and ‘Perfect Strangers’ in 2001. Gambon also got nominated for Primetime Emmy Awards for ‘Path to War’ in 2002 and ‘Emma’ in 2009. 

Moreover, In 2017, he was also honored with the prestigious ‘Irish Film & Television Academy Lifetime Achievement Award’. Micheal Gambon was also ranked at No. 27 on The Irish Times’  list of Ireland’s greatest film actors in 2020.

In the film series Harry Potter, Dumbledore dies in the sixth part, named  “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince.” In the film, the character was killed by Severus Snape at the Astronomy Tower in Hogwarts. However, Harry Potter’s Dumbledore is not between us anymore. 

On the one hand, the movie franchise is ready to come back with its 10th season. Meanwhile, the actor, Michael Gambon, playing Harry Potter’s Dumbledore, died on Thursday. On 28 September 2023, the official X account of Harry Potter’s team notified the fans about the demise of Gambon.

The family of the actor revealed that the actor passed away at the age of 82 following a “bout of pneumonia” in Witham, Essex, England. According to Variety, the publicist Clair Dobbs reported that, 

“We are devastated to announce the loss of Sir Michael Gambon. Beloved husband and father, Michael died peacefully in hospital with his wife Anne and son Fergus at his bedside, following a bout of pneumonia. Michael was 82. We ask that you respect our privacy at this painful time and thank you for your messages of support and love.”

Fans are heartbroken by the news, along with the people associated with either the movie or the actor.
