Jefferson Machado was a soap opera actor whose dead body was found recently. He was murdered and buried inside a trunk found outside a home in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
The 44-year-old Machado had an avid interest in acting and has been studying the craft since 1997. He starred in Placebo Effect, a 2021 film he had co-written. His final role before going missing was in a telenovela, Reis.
He had starred in several films and had an estimated net worth of $1-$5 million.

Jefferson Goes Missing
Jefferson was last seen on January 27 when he was leaving a Campo Grande House. On January 28, his family reported him missing as his eight dogs were abandoned.
The family learned about the disappearance as a non-governmental agency contacted them to inform them that eight dogs had been abandoned. Unfortunately, two of them passed away, proving long-term negligence.
It was unusual behavior on Jeff’s part since he loved all his dogs, and they were often posted on his social media account.
However, his mother had received a text from Jefferson saying he was staying at a friend’s house due to a job interview. He was officially declared missing on February 9, 2023.
Fraud Impersonation of Jefferson
In a shocking turn of events, Machado’s family reported that the actor was still texting them. However, the messages were rife with spelling and other errors, and it was unlike how their son usually texted.
The fraud also kept denying voice messages, and any call, pulling up an excuse that he had dropped his phone into the toilet, deeming it impossible to call.

Discovery of Jefferson’s Body
Investigators found Machado’s body in the backyard of a Campo Grande (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) house on May 22, 2023. His body was already decomposing and could be identified only by fingerprints.
His body was apparently bound, and there were signs of being strangled, judging from the marks on his neck. The wooden trunk was encased in concrete and buried 6.5 feet beneath the backyard.
According to reports, Machado’s arms were tied behind his head, and the trunk he was discovered in resembled the ones in his own house. Police footage showed the trunk getting exhumed. The task had apparently involved nine people.
His family was alerted immediately, and soon news of the case became public knowledge. The police are still investigating the case and have not arrived at a conclusion yet.
