Political scandals are not new to people. For many years, politicians have faced the wrath of the U.S. criminal justice system in some form or the other. The 37th president of the United States, Republican Richard Nixon, who served from 1969 to 1974, was named as an “unindicted co-conspirator” by a federal grand jury in the Watergate scandal.
Even the 42nd president of the United States, Bill Clinton, was accused of giving false testimony to a grand jury in 1998 as he dealt with the consequence of his affair with Monica Lewinsky, a White House intern.
Former President Donald Trump is the first to be indicted by a grand jury. Harrison Floyd, leader of a group called Black Voices for Trump, is among 18 individuals charged in Georgia for being part of an alleged “criminal enterprise” designed to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election in the state.
Who Is the Leader of Black Voices for Trump, Harrison Floyd?
Harrison Floyd, also known as Willie Lewis Floyd III, holds a prominent position in U.S. politics. He served as director of Black Voices for Trump.
He earned his education from The George Washington University Columbian College of Arts & Sciences, Yale School of Management, and The Graduate School of Political Management. Floyd played a significant role in the political realm, especially during the 2020 election period. He was a staff member of the 2020 Trump campaign.
Under Floyd’s leadership, the group Black Voices for Trump emerged as a powerful force to get Black voter support for Trump. The group promoted former President Donald J. Trump’s objectives through various events and campaigns.
The former leader of Black Voices for Trump comes from a family “with a deep history of military service”, according to a page on the Second Genesis Foundation website. He even served in the military for 10 years.
The website even claims that Floyd “succeeded in increasing President Trump’s support from Black Americans and helped garner the highest share of minority voters since 1960.”
According to his LinkedIn profile, Floyd has “over 15 years of proven experience in operations, crisis management, government, and political campaigns.”
He “possesses a comprehensive background in intergovernmental and community relations, public policy, and staff management derived from working on Capitol Hill, a United States Presidential campaign, and the United States Marine Corps.”
Over the years, Floyd “has managed assets over $12 million and multiple personnel, while providing operational oversight and supervision.”
Why Is Harrison Floyd Indicted?
It was alleged that Floyd enlisted Pastor Stephen Lee to set up a meeting with the Chicago-based publicist Trevian Kutti and a Fulton County election worker, Ruby Freeman.
As per the indictment filed by the Fulton County Superior Court, the Atlanta grand jury charged him with three counts of the indictment: Georgia RICO (Racketeering Influenced and Corrupted Organizations) Act, conspiracy to commit solicitation of false statements and writings, and influencing witnesses.
He appears in Act 89, Act 115, Act 116, Act 119, Act 120, Act 121, Act 122, and Act 127 of the 161 acts cited for Count 1, the overarching violation of RICO.
According to the indictment, Floyd, Kutti, and Stephen Lee “unlawfully conspired to solicit, request and importune Ruby Freeman” on January 4, 2021, “to engage in conduct constituting the felony offense of false statements and writings… by knowingly and willfully making a false statement and representation concerning events at State Farm Arena in the November 3, 2020, presidential election in Georgia.”
