Ezekiel Elijah Elliott, nicknamed “Zeke” is a seasoned running back who has already turned heads with his performances in the regent league.
He is one of the NFL’s best pass-blocking backs and was ranked eighth among 42 qualified running backs in converting third-down carries into first downs with a 72% success rate.
After seven seasons and 8,262 rushing yards with the Dallas Cowboys, Zeke has found a new place for the 2023 season. With all that, Ezekiel Elliott played his first game for the New England Patriots against the Philadelphia Eagles at Gillette Stadium. He has found himself in a new uniform which isn’t too much of a surprise as the debates surrounding the value of running backs and appropriate salary accommodations have been a focal point of the offseason.
Which Team Is Ezekiel Elliott Playing For Now?
After ditching the Dallas star and No. 21, Ezekiel has now donned the red, white, and blue colored jersey of the Patriots. The 28-year-old went on to spend the spring and most of the summer in the NFL’s free agency wilderness when he landed with the new team.
New England Patriots signed Ezekiel Elliott for a one-year deal in August at a whopping $3 million rate and additional potential incentives.
In the recent game, the former Dallas Cowboys running back, Zeke, had seven carries for 29 yards adding five catches for 14 yards and a fumble as a pass catcher. He joined the team on August 16, 2023, with a one-year contract but not as the main running back. Ezekiel is supporting his teammate Rhamondre Stevenson, who starts for the England Patriots.
Why Did Ezekiel Elliott Leave Dallas Cowboys?
Ezekiel Elliott is currently listed as the No. 2 running back behind the 25-year-old Rhamondre Stevenson, who had an excellent 2022 season. However, his leaving the Cowboys after six years has a handful of reasons.
While it was speculated that the Cowboys would part ways with Ezekiel Elliott and his unwieldy, $90 million contract would result in either a pay reduction or an outright release, we now know the answer.
The Cowboys have opted to part ways with their longtime running back, Ezekiel. His yards per game and overall usage continue to fall, leading to him being cut from the Cowboys. Zeke eventually settled on a one-year deal with the Patriots, which a source told is worth $4 million with incentives that could boost his compensation to $6 million.
How Many Touchdowns Does Ezekiel Elliott Have?
After having a fantastic career in American football, Ezekiel Elliott was picked by the Dallas Cowboys in the NFL Draft as the fourth overall choice in 2016. Right from the start, people knew he was special as the amount that was spent on him was way too high.
In his first season, he proved his worth and ran more yards than anyone else in the league, with 1,631 yards scoring 15 touchdowns.
He was named the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year, and this was just the beginning of his successful career. By the end of his time with the Cowboys, Ezekiel Elliott played 7 seasons and had 1,881 carries for 8,262 yards, 305 catches for 2,336 yards, and scored 80 touchdowns.
While he had to leave his team because of the salary cap issues, he is currently shining in the new team.
