Starfield has been in the news ever since it was announced, and when its Early Access came, it was once again in the headlines. Adding more to the fire of the new game, YouTube Gaming streamer Herschel “Guy,” popularly known as “Dr DisRespect” claims he wanted to work with Bethesda, but the developers behind Starfield did not agree to it. He wanted to help promote the game upon launch but did not get Early Access to the game.
While marketing is one of the most important elements of selling a game, it seems like Bethesda did not want to work with Dr DisRespect based on “past controversies.” As the streamer was eager to test Starfield, he was unable to get a sponsorship from the creators of the game.
Who Is Dr DisRespect?
Herschel “Guy” Beahm IV created his alter ego character by the name of Dr DisRespect, who is often called The Doc. He began his career as a professional gamer and has since branched out to content creation, game development, and now has demonstrated his potential around the world through YouTube and Twitch.
Apart from the gaming world, Dr DisRespect has also sold his very own alcohol and been involved in some controversies along the way but has always come out on top. He made an appearance on Twitch around 2015, the year in which he also left his previous company, Sledgehammer, where he was working as a designer. He helped create a large number of Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare maps in multiplayer mode and made a switch to devote himself to streaming on Twitch.
During his time as an employee for the gaming company, Dr DisRespect gathered his initial following for his entertaining personality and his skill at games in the battle royale genre. He hopped from H1Z1 to PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds and Call of Duty: Black Ops 4, steadily increasing his viewership as he moved between titles.
Dr DisRespect became the most excitable YouTube streamer on the planet with his skills and personality collaborating with some of the other biggest names in the gaming industry.
Why Bethesda Did Not Work With Dr DisRespect?
The release of Starfield has triggered a lot of conversations, and Dr Disrepect reveals his own issues. During a live stream of whooping 10 hours, he went to check out Bethesda Game Studios’ head of publishing, Pete Hines’ X (formerly Twitter) profile.
“‘This is my personal account. Warning: I tweet about our games and many other random things. He/Him.’ Got it! Okay. Now everything is starting to make sense,” said Dr DisRespect.
The streamer shared the conversation between his team and the Bethesda Game Studios when they reached out for collaboration. He also shared that he insisted on getting the access as many others were getting it too, but the BGS maintained their stance due to his past controversy.
“We had our team reach out, ‘Hey, can we work with you? Can we do something?’ (Bethesda Game Studios’ response) ‘Due to past controversies, there is no way we can with Dr DisRespect.’ How about… just let me play the game when some of the others are playing it? How about that? (Bethesda Game Studios response) ‘Yeah, that’s still the case.’ Anyways, champs. We just had to get that off our chest,” added the streamer.
With all that, Dr DisRespect played Starfield Early Access on the day of the title’s early launch despite being denied sponsorship.
The game has certainly been quite controversial, but do you think it deserves the hype? Let us know in the comments below.
